Red
“I don’t want a haircut.” Anya mumbles as Mom pushes her into the little shop. Ollie’s already animatedly chatting to the hairdressers, discussing the latest fashions in hair. Anya just scowls and crosses her arms. Anya is escorted to a seat, which is pumped up after she’s sat down. Anya’s not impressed.
“Jimmy will be out in a second to help you.” The assistance tells Anya and disappears. Jimmy appears.
Anya just stares. The young man has the brightest red hair she’s ever seen. “What can I do for you little lady?” He asks Anya kindly.
“I want your hair.”
Orange
Anya does it all wrong. The dye stains her fingers for days and because she forgot to put in bleach, her hair ends up being an odd color between her natural mousy brown and the bright orange that she bought from the shop. Mom nearly screams when she sees her.
Dr. Monroe smiles when he sees her that evening and he takes her to a man with kind eyes and a smile like Dr. Monroe’s. He makes Anya’s hair bright and orange and he explains to her what she did wrong. Dr. Monroe tells her to keep it a secret from Mom.
Yellow
High School forces her to have ‘normal’ hair colors. “I don’t get it” She mumbles. Dr. Monroe frowns and brings her some blonde hair dye, but it’s bright and bleaches. But it makes her skin look pale than ever and brings out the dark bruises under her eyes.
The next thing she knows she’s in the principal’s office. “I’m an Anya’s doctor. I am telling you, for her psychological welfare, that she will be dyeing her hair.” Dr. Monroe has a powerful voice sometimes.
“It’s against school rules.”
“Then she’s switching schools.” The next day Anya’s hair is orange again.
Green
“Something’s different about you…” Katsu taps her chin as she mocks Anya, observing her carefully. “Is that a new piercing?”
“You’re hilarious.” Anya responds, running a hand through her hair. “What do you think?”
“It’s green.”
“No shit. Sherlock.” Anya replies, walking over the mirror on their wardrobe. “Does it make me look pale?”
“No.” Katsu speaks too quickly. Anya turns around to look at her friend, panic flashing across her face.
“You think it makes me look sick?!”
“You have green hair!”
“That’s an invalid comeback!” Anya shifts her weight between her feet uncertainly.
“I like it.” Katsu explains.
Blue
“Hey, Kat, right?” Katsu looks up from the frog she's dissecting.
“Yes?” She asks impatiently.
“You’re in the band with the blue haired chick, right?” The boy is tall with blond hair. Just Anya’s type.
“That I am.” Kat agrees, the cold metal of the handle of the scalpel leaning against her lip.
“Isn’t she usually here?” He asks, clearly uncomfortable around Katsu.
“She is.” Katsu agrees again. “She’s my lab partner.” Katsu dramatically gestures to the empty space next to her. “She doesn’t really like dissections.”
“Oh.” The boy looks around awkwardly. “Could you give her my number?”
Violet
“Hey Constance.” Anya's leaning against the gates of the school, her purple hair making her stand out from the crowd.
“Where’s Mama?” Constance asks in confusion.
“She asked me to pick you up.” Anya offers her hand to the eight year old.
“Is she still angry with me?” There's fear in Constance’s voice.
“Of course not.” Anya pushes the fear aside with a wave of her arm.
“Then why are you picking me up?” Constance frowns.
“What do you think of my hair?” Anya offers after a second. Constance considers it.
“It’s different.” She offers finally.
so, this was meant to be the final piece: violet is actually a reference to the piece that still needs to be written about Rebecca and Carlota's daughter. so, watch this space? anyway, i've decided that i adore Katsu and i need to write more Katsu centered pieces. possibly in the crime fighters au?
