MisfitsSummary: Jane has a secret that will affect the whole team.
Notes: I think I lost track of the prompt somewhere along the lines. I didn’t write this in two hours; I didn’t have enough time.
Her hands were trembling a little as she made her way to Tom’s office. Since one of the normal Cerberus doctors had gotten sick, Tom had taken over temporarily and was spending much more time in his lab coat doing what he had always wanted to do in life.
It should have made Jane more comfortable because when he was busy, there was no need for her to sneak around as much, trying to take care of her own affairs that she knew Tom shouldn’t find out about -- not yet -- but it was hard to keep things secret from him even if they weren’t around each other as much as they usually were. She had promised to keep no more secrets from him after the last time but she was still going behind his back and it was time to tell him everything.
She knocked on the door softly, willing her hands to stop shaking.
“Yeah, come in,” she heard Tom’s familiar voice call and opened the heavy wooden door. Tom wasn’t alone as she had hoped he would be but at least it was only Face who was keeping him company, not a real patient.
“This could look very wrong to someone who doesn’t know you guys,” Jane commented upon entering the room.
Face, for some reason mostly naked, was wiping what looked suspiciously like the gel used for ultrasounds from his lower back and butt while Tom fiddled with the ultrasound.
“He was ultrasounding his own ass,” Tom explained, turning in his swivel chair to face his girlfriend.
“And here I thought you were so busy with all the workload you’ve had to take,” Jane teased, feeling much more comfortable by now than she had before she had come in. Tom and Face looked like they had had a lot of fun with whatever it was they were doing and it calmed her down to be in their familiar presence.
“Doesn’t mean I can’t have fun every now and then,” Tom shrugged.
“Besides, this should be a normal regular check-up. I kinda like the way this feels,” Face added. He had removed most of the gel from his skin and proceeded to put his pants that had been down to his ankles back on.
Jane had seen much worse and had long developed the theory that Face had some sort of medical kink. It was the only explanation she had for Face’s strange behavior and the way he let himself be subjected to the strangest non-intrusive procedures for no health reasons at all.
“Get your ass out of here, Ramsey, my next patient needs tending to,” Tom announced grinning. “And I like her a lot more than I like you.”
Picking up his last items of clothing, Face made his way out of the room while Jane slid onto the bed letting her feet dangle off it.
“This is serious,” Tom observed, rolling over to her in his chair until they sat across from each other.
“I know where my sister is and I think I need help getting to her,” Jane blurted out before she had the opportunity to change her mind.
Now that Face was gone and it was just the two of them, she was feeling uncertain again. Maybe it would have been good to keep Face in the room for this conversation.
“I thought your sister was somewhere in Europe and you weren’t really in touch.”
“She -- I’m not sure where she was, if she really was in Europe. She might have been living in a room at Budget Suites for the last few years or under a bridge.” She bit her lip. She knew she should have come clean about this a long time ago. “I said Europe because that’s far away and easier to deal with than the truth.”
“She’s in trouble?” Tom asked. She knew he would admonish her for all her secrets later but it was better to tell him all she could before he exploded. She wouldn’t blame him when he did because she realized she would be equally angry at him if he suddenly started to tell her the things she was about to tell him.
“Shirley is in so much trouble you won’t even believe it. Apparently, she’s hanging out with Andrea Castellini.”
That was enough for Tom’s jaw to drop and Jane to feel horrible. She would have had no problem at all recruiting her boyfriend and friends to help her get her younger sister away from drugs and lock her into rehab but if the brother of a drug lord, himself not quite innocent either, was involved, then how could she ask for them to help her without putting them all in danger?
“This means war,” Tom finally whispered. “We’ll get your sister away from that bastard, I promise.”
