Summary: Jane helps Wes with a problem.
Notes: Actually, I think Jane’s conclusion is pretty good. I’ve had that sentence in my head for over a week now. I want to write more about Tom and Jane this year. They are pretty awesome.

Wes had been talking nonstop for at least fifteen minutes and both Tom and Jane took turns looking at the big clock in the room. The minutes passed slowly as if they weren’t even trying to compete with the velocity with which Wes spoke. It was almost as if he didn’t ever stop to take a breath. The ranting was the same both of them were already far to used to when it came to Wes and they had gotten more than a gist about what was going on from the first minute of the monologue already.

Jane looked over to Tom who was doodling on a sketch pad.

I told you he’d go crazy with this one, he had written in block letters and was underlining it absent-mindedly over and over again.

Of course he had been right.

“Wes, honey,” Jane cut the cowboy off when he finally stopped to take a breath. He didn’t look like he was done talking by a long stretch but she couldn’t listen to this anymore. She had already heard far too many reproductions of the conversations Wes had had with his new enemy. “I think it’s time for me to use all the knowledge about the human mind in my Psych 101 class to analyze you.”

“Do I have to take my clothes off?” His fingers immediately started working on the first button of his checkered shirt but Tom shook his head.

“I’m the doctor here. You only ever have to take your clothes off when I tell you to. Or when you’re playing doctor with a woman. Jane can tell you what’s wrong by just listening to you.”

His hands dropped back to his sides. “But we already know what my problem is. Robert! I don’t think I need some psychology expert to talk to me about that.”

“I’m not exactly an expert but I think I know why you have a problem with Robert,” Jane said patiently.

“He exists and he wants Hobbie all for himself,” Wes stated matter of fact. “Do you know they have sex?”

“I think he mentioned it in passing,” Tom confirmed. “It’s pretty obvious, really.”

“Your problem with Robert is that he’s not a woman,” Jane tried to explain. “I think you’ve slept with every other person from Hobbie’s past you’ve met so far.”

“His cousin, his ex-girlfriend and his adopted daughter,” Wes nodded. Jane wasn’t exactly sure how to interpret the broad, proud smile he had put on.

“You didn’t like any of them either but by sleeping with them, you sort of took control of the situation a little. Because sleeping with people is your coping mechanism,” Jane continued. “And Robert is the exception because he’s a rival for Hobbie’s attention you can’t sleep with.”

“Well, you can, but I don’t think you will,” Tom interjected.

Wes shook his head in disgust. “You psychologists are complete quacks. Stick to real medicine.”

He was out the door before either Tom or Jane could say anything and when the door fell shut, they both shook their heads.

“I think that was actually a quite good assessment of Wes,” Tom commented.

“Yeah, I thought so too. Then again, I think most Psych 101 students can psychoanalyze Wes. He’s not all that hard to figure out.”
