Lol. I wrote a bonding moment between Kamali and Jenelle and now it's time for Colton and Kamali have a bonding moment. XD Wooop! Then the link above to the small about page is on a tumblr page I made. That link will probably change because I'm going to try to make a more in depth description either on that tumblr page or make a journal entry in my livejournal about it. (:

“They Played The Monster Mash”

The silence had long since drifted between them, since their conversation faded away around five minutes ago. Both Colton and Kamali were sitting on the back porch of the cabin. Victor was actually home tonight, but he was on the phone with another slayer and had been for the past thirty minutes ever since he came home. Neither of them would have been surprised if he were to leave soon for the hunt the ally might have needed help with. It didn’t matter much to either of them though; they were used to this behavior. Kamali cared and was bothered by it more so than Colton in some ways, but the fact that Colton was here now reassured him some. He would rather not be left alone. It generally made him uncomfortable.

Actually, Kamali was surprised Colton was home. Kamali guessed him and Brooklyn got into a fight and that had been the reason why she was quick to ask Jenelle to hangout and leave the house. Then Michael was away too, off to see his girlfriend that everyone seemed to know about now except for Victor. He’d flip his lid if he found out, and that reaction was one Kamali didn’t want to witness. Thus, it was just Colton, Victor, and him at the house this Saturday night. Kamali was surprised Colton didn’t leave to go off somewhere to be by himself--well, outside of the house anyway--but Kamali was thankful he hadn’t. As Kamali flipped through songs on his mp3 player, he heard Victor moving through the kitchen behind them. Since they had left the screen door open, Kamali could hear that Victor was still on the phone. A minute passed, and they were left in silence again only interrupted by the sounds of crickets chirping.

Once that five minutes of silence turned into eight, Kamali began to feel uneasy. Maybe he was bothering Colton. After all it was Kamali who had come out here to join him uninvited. Yet if he didn’t like him here, Colton would have said something, wouldn’t he? Shaggy bangs fell into his face as Kamali tucked his chin down close to his chest as he finally decided on a song. He didn’t lift his head up though. With his legs curled up with one hand resting comfortably on his knee, he fidgeted the volume of his mp3 player as he pretended to be preoccupied to give him an excuse not to look up. However, he did glance up just once to see what Colton was doing.

The older teen had been doing exactly what he was doing earlier. He was leaning back slightly with resting his weight to one side. One of his legs was elevated with his arm slung over it while his adjacent leg rested outstretched and other arm held him up. Although strands of black, wavy hair trailed down the sides of his face, Colton’s sharp, golden eyes were visible to Kamali. As Colton stared off into the distance, the quarter moon above only made his distinct, yellow eyes shine brighter.

Even though both Kamali and Colton were canine shifters--as were everyone else besides Victor--Colton was different in physical aspect. Sure, Kamali’s brilliant blue eyes were a rare radiance in luster, but he still had just blue eyes. His human form didn’t have any unusual details because he was a tame shifter, a softborn--meaning he was born in his human form. Colton, however, was wildborn and the only one in their little, odd family who was so. Thus, Colton was a bit different with having natural, bright golden-yellow eyes, sharper and more distinct canines, and ears that were pinched slightly at the top.

Then wildborns were naturally a bit harrier too and by the looks of his arms--and legs if they weren’t covered--he was no different. He didn’t have an excessive amount like some did even at his age, just more than Kamali and more than average. Then it could only be guessed that the inklings of stubble he had on his face would grow more actively a few years down the line into adulthood. Colton was fortune though. The only noticeable part about him was his eyes. His long hair covered his ears, his teeth weren’t all that noticeably odd unless someone was purposely looking, and some people were just naturally more hairy than others.

However, looking at Colton’s yellow eyes now made Kamali feel even more out of place. Colton had a way of intimidating others, and those eyes of his only emphasised that aura he generally gave off. It was then that Colton glanced over and caught Kamali staring at him. A faint yelp rose in Kamali’s throat as his eyes widened, but he held down the initial reaction and quickly cast his gaze back down. Oops. Kamali hadn’t meant to gape.

Colton didn’t comment on it though. Instead, he calmly asked, “What are you listening to?”

A small smile of relief formed on Kamali’s face as he answered almost sheepishly, “Monster Mash.” Well, Halloween was around the corner.

Colton turned towards him and gave him a strange look. While lifting one of his eyebrows, he questioned, “What?”

A grin stretched Kamali’s lips. “The Monster Mash song.”

As Kamali restarted the song on his mp3 player, a giddy feeling rose inside of him. Kamali was just known to be strange and silly sometimes. That was just how he was. Although slightly embarrassed he might have been, he began to quietly sing anyway. “I was working in the lab late one night when my eyes beheld an eerie sight...”

While Colton continued to stare at him like he had lost it, Kamali had climbed to his feet so he could sway slightly to the song. He shifted his weight back and forth as he made small hand gestures as he half sang, half hummed. “For my monster from his slab began to rise and suddenly to my surprise--he did the mash!”

Amusement fell over Colton as a smirk rose to his face. His golden eyes flashed in the light, but Kamali felt a bit more comfortable now as he sung the chorus with a little more confidence. It continued on like this with Colton watching in what Kamali hoped was enjoyment and with Kamali being silly. A light breeze blew through the forest behind the cabin and rustled the trees’ leaves as Kamali continued to hop around the porch. Kamali only faltered when a rare sound cut through his ears. Instantly, he froze and watched in awe as his singing was interrupted. Colton had suddenly laughed. Well, it was more of a low snicker, but it was genuine.

Kamali wasn’t sure what caught him off guard more: that or Colton stating the next lyrics of the song in an act of half joining in on the fun. “It was a graveyard smash.”

Then they continued on, both of them singing the lyrics. Kamali more so sang than Colton, since Colton was kind of just saying the words under his breath. However, there was a faint smile on Colton’s face, which only caused Kamali’s grin to stretch wider. Kamali didn’t care that Colton was only mumbling the words. It was close enough to qualify as singing with him in Kamali’s opinion, and he was just glad that Colton even wanted to participate at all.

As their brief liveliness continued, they both went unaware of a silence audience member that stood in the background. Within the house, Victor watched the two of them with an unreadable, even expression on his face. The scene had split him down the middle. A rare feeling both light and warm spread inside his chest and almost caused a smile to form on his face. However, the irony that twisted his stomach into knots killed that possibility. Through his hazel eyes, they were not just Kamali and Colton but two shifters, two beasts, two monsters. He wanted nothing more than to shove that feeling away, but as he watched, unease tightened in his gut anyway. After not wanting to feel the split emotions any further after a minute passed, Victor turned without a word. As he made his way towards the front of the house, he grabbed his coat off the rack, opened the front door, and closed it soundlessly behind him.

‘They played the mash,
They played the monster mash,
The monster mash,
It was a graveyard smash,
They played the mash,
It caught on in a flash,
They played the mash,
They played the monster mash.’
