Story: Misfits
Summary: Wes is prepared.
Notes: Just trying to get some of those out of the way, I guess.

They had been busy building forts for over an hour now and they had become quite impressive, tall walls of protection that nothing would be able to penetrate all that easily. It was quite satisfying, Shania decided as she looked at the one she and Face had been working on. Granted, it was not the awesome monstrosity Wes and Hobbie had been working on all morning now but it should still shield them from snowballs. She looked over to Face who was preparing their ammunition now and she suspected that Wes and Hobbie were doing the same. It was hard to tell without invading what Wes had dubbed Wesopolis, a large square around his snow fort.

Now, he looked up, over his fortification and nodded at her. “Don’t even think about coming to look at what we’re doing. I’m going to declare war right away if you do that and you must know that I’m far more prepared.”

“It’s true,” Hobbie called from the bench he was sitting on, still on Wesopolis but a bit farther away from Wes, trying to warm himself a little but failing to. It wasn’t really a surprise Wes had done most of the work and just dragged Hobbie who had a fever and should have been in bed along so both teams would be equal in numbers.

Hobbie was wearing so many layers of clothes that Shania wondered how he even managed to move but she had decided not to ask just in case Wes took this as another offending comment and did start the whole war -- he refused to call it a simple fight -- before she was even in safety behind her fort.

It shouldn’t have surprised her how militaristic and serious-minded Wes was about snowball fights; after all, this was the man who refused to accept that paint ball was a mere game. Shania hoped his aim with snowballs wasn’t as good as it was with the paintball gun. This wasn’t just fun and games to him like everything else in the world. Wes Janson had the amazing talent of mistaking this game for the most serious experience in his life.

It should have worried Shania but it didn’t. Not until after the game had already started and Wes’ snowballs not only hit her everywhere but also made his antagonists’ fort collapse.

Challenge: Eggnog #6 - snowman
Extras / Toppings: butterscotch, hot fudge
Word Count: 240
Summary: Bishop is scientific in his approach to everything, even snowmen.

He looked up from his sketchpad every now and then to see if the children were still there in the snow about two hundred feet away. They didn’t ever disappear from his sight and the snowman they were building had grown considerably though the scarf and hat he brought were still on the bench beside him. They along with the sticks and stones the children had gathered on the way to the park would be the last touches. Bishop knew that once his children were happy with the snowman, he would have to help with the decoration of the snowman.

This was the first year he was able to do calculations instead of having to sit in the snow with the twins, helping them build the snowman they took as serious as he took the numbers on his pad. He liked it this way, having to accompany them but not having to put up with all those mothers in the park whispering how great of a father he was for being out here with his children almost every day. It got annoying really fast. So did building a snow man several times a week whenever there was snow and the last one had melted.

He finished the last row of calculations and underlined the result. This was how much time he expected to have if the temperature didn’t rise unexpectedly, until the kids would want to build the next snowman.
