Summary: She ran into a warm body and fell back, the umbrella twirling before it dropped into a puddle.

10.03 a.m.
16th December 1981.
London, England.

It began with an umbrella.

Kimberly ran down the street, trying to dodge the puddles but laughing when she didn't, when the cold water spilled over the top of her shoes and wet her feet. Her watch lay, heavy and warm, in her pocket. She was late, as ever.

That was the only thing her superiors could ever say about her. She was never on time - and for one of them, for a traveller, it was almost unheard of. Surely it was a sign of rebellion, a sign that her travelling would be sub-par-

Of course it wasn't. She just didn't pay attention to the time, was all.

That was why she was running now; she didn't want to travel in, didn't want to give them that satisfaction; so she ran, ignoring the odd looks she received from passers-by when she squealed at the feeling of raindrops trailing under the collar of her dress.

The building was just around the corner and it was only five past; for once she wouldn't be that late, but-

She ran into a warm body and fell back, the umbrella twirling before it dropped into a puddle.

The man turned, frowning when he saw her sitting on the ground. Kimberly glared up at him, making no attempt to get to her feet. The lesson today would prove to be boring anyway, but this man-

He held out a hand and she took it, getting to her feet. Her dress was soaked, like her hair; water dripped down her face and she pushed her fringe back from her forehead.

"Sorry," she said, smiling a little. "Shoulda looked where I was going-"

"Where were you going?" he asked. His tone was a little urgent and Kimberly frowned. Her right hand dropped instinctively into her pocket, fingers curling around the watch that lay there.

"I don't think that's any of your business," she replied coldly.

The man grinned. Kimberly still kept her hand around her watch. "My name's Steven," he said. "I'm a Guardian. You're Kimberly, right?"

"What if I am?"

He laughed, but the joke was lost on Kimberly. "They told me you'd be late. Never told me you'd be so clumsy, though."

Kimberly opened her mouth to reply, but stopped when Steven took her right arm, pulling it gently out of her pocket so he could see the watch in her hand. "Good," he said. "Good instincts." His eyes were warm when he looked at her. "Come on, let's go somewhere warmer, shall we? You look like you're going to freeze, soaked through like that."

She frowned, but tracked his movements when he pulled a pocket watch out and glanced at the face.

"How does Jamaica sound?"

Summary: In which Tavor is almost caught.

Tavor pushed his way through the crowds, ducking under the outstretched arm of a guard when it appeared to his right.

His heart in his throat, he made sure the stolen loaf of bread remained under his arm, more worried than anything about the jewels in his pocket. They'd not seen him take them, but they'd find them on him if they searched.

He wheeled around a corner and down another street, sure that the guards were just on his heels. A hand shot out and pulled him through a doorway, into a house.

Tavor paused, catching his breath.

Etan grinned at him through the darkness.

"What'd you get, kid?"

The boy held out the jewels. Etan looked at the bread for a moment, but with the jewels in his hand, he seemed to decide against it.

"Good, kid," Etan said. "Remember who you belong to next time, will ya?"

Tavor nodded. He wasn't going through something like that again - though, he supposed, he would have gotten away much more easily if he'd not stopped to get the bread-

"Good," Etan repeated. "Now, go on, back to the house. I'll call ya when I need ya."

Tavor left the dark hallway as soon as he was able, glancing up and down the street before he ran up another alley and crouched down, ripping off chunks of the bread to eat.

He'd never forget. He was in this gang for life.
