Notes: I'm taking a break from my sad little NaNo, which is planned, but not written, to write more about Tsukino. Cheeseburger really is the flavor for this canon. :) Well enjoy! Hope everyone is doing good in NaNo!
Kazu stared at the number on the screen of his phone. Tsukino gave him permission to call her family about her hospitalization, but Kazu didn’t want to call them. He had mixed feelings towards them. He didn’t meet them yet, but Tsukino explained that they wouldn’t believe they were a couple. The stress they put on Tsukino caused her to go to the hospital in the first place. Kazu didn’t know how to call them without an attitude.
He looked over in the hospital room at Tsukino who slept soundly. He had to do it. Tsukino gave him a job to do and he would do it. Kazu hit send and waited for Miki to pick up.
“Hello this is Miki. I can’t make it to the phone right now, please leave a message after the beep.”
Kazu took a quick breath before he started. “Hi this is Kazu, Tsukino’s boyfriend. Tsukino wanted to let you know that she’s in the hospital, but she’s okay and would like to see you soon. Okay, thanks for listening, bye.”
He closed the phone, took another breath, and dialed the next number. Someone picked up on the second ring.
“Tsuki-chan?”
“Um, no, I’m afraid.”
“Who is this?”
“My name is Kazu. I’m Tsukino’s boyfriend.”
“…She didn’t tell us she had one.”
“Did she mention me?”
“She told me she was seeing this nice guy and I guess that’s you, huh?”
“Yes I am. It’s nice to meet you…er…”
“Kenji, I’m Tsukino’s father. Nice to finally talk to you. My wife is out with my daughter at the moment, is something wrong?”
“Tsukino is in the hospital.”
“What! When did this happen?”
“Earlier today, she passed out when we were making lunch. I don’t want you to think I did something because I would never, ever hurt her. The doctor said it was stress related. She’s been so stressed out she hasn’t eaten or slept.”
“Stress, I see. How is she?”
“She’s sleeping right now.”
“Who’s there?”
“Minako, Rumiko, and my friend Takeshi,”
“We’ll be there in a few minutes.”
“I have to tell you the room--”
“It’s okay. I’ll find out her room number when I get there. Keep her company, until we get there.”
“I will,”
“Kazu,”
“Yes?”
“Thank you,”
“You’re welcome,”
“Bye,”
“Bye,” Kazu shut the phone with a breath of relief. That didn’t go as bad as I thought. I like her dad. I hope her mom and sister aren’t too bad. He slipped the phone in his pocket on the way back to her room. Kazu took a seat in the chair near Tsukino’s bed and gently took her hand. He leaned over and kissed her cheek. He settled back down and waited for Tsukino to wake up again.
