Summary: Allyson is overworked for a purpose.

Note: MY LAST ENTRY FOR PINK LEMONADE! YES! Ahem ;)...
If Allyson lied to herself long enough…
...imagined there wasn’t a huge smear of tomato sauce on her ivory cardigan (why did I think pizza wasn’t going to spill out?)…
…pretended there weren’t seven voicemails from Mrs. Lane’s therapist (why is her therapist calling Mr. Lane’s divorce attorney?)…
…assumed she could finish up the billing without cutting into her lunch hour again (why am I still behind on that invoice?)…
…supposed that she could make it through fourteen hours of day and night shifts without grievous mental collapse (why didn’t I pack some Red Bull instead of green tea?).
It was her damned fault taking on double shifts at the yoga studio along with her daytime legal admin job; going from the office to her apartment for a quick dinner and wardrobe change, followed by a half-jog to the Renaissance Wellness Center was an indefinite nightcap until she allowed herself to go back to a Monday/Wednesday teaching schedule. Pulling double duty on the career path wasn’t required, but it helped Allyson move forward in pursuit of a dream: a house. She didn’t want anything huge; maybe a converted brick end-of-group in Romena Square, or some fixer upper in Sailors’ Hill. She decided right after the split with Brian to finally concentrate on something in her future that wasn’t governed by another person’s actions.
Allyson never imagined another man entering her life when this dream came around…so what about the future? Was there room for Jamie in her “One Day House”? Could she imagine being swept up into his arms and over some potential threshold?
The phone rang again.
Okay, so the future has to wait.
