"You know you've been in here all day, right?" Wherein Rayn has been working on this paper for way too long.
notes : aah, I feel crappy for being so behind on reading D: and super behind on the pumpkin pie. here's to hoping this week goes better than the last and I can be more of an internet presence!
Rayn has yet to come out of his room. Every time Mike passes the half-open door, he catches a glimpse of him sitting at his desk, fully focused on his computer. As far as Mike can tell, he's barely moved all day.
When Mike raps his knuckles against the door frame, Rayn looks up with a start.
"Hey," Mike says.
"Hey, what's up?"
"You know you've been in here all day, right?"
"Yeah, sorry." Rayn swivels around in his chair, looking apologetic. "I've been really focused on this psych paper."
"I was wondering if you could recommend a good place to go get a bite. Or if you want to take a break and come with." Mike crosses the room to stand by the window. He grabs the cord to the mini-blinds and gives it a yank. "What do you say? Want to catch the last of the sun before it goes down?"
"Oh no!" Rayn makes a show of leaning away from the window. "The light!"
Mike laughs a little, rolling his eyes. Then something on the far wall catches his attention. "Hey," he says, pointing, "you have a huge spider hanging out above your door."
Rayn looks. "Oh yeah, I know. It's okay."
"You know, you have a lot of cobwebs in here for how neat you keep everything else…"
"The spiders don't hurt anything." Rayn shrugs. "It seems kind of mean to chase them out."
"Mean? To the spiders?"
"You're not afraid of spiders, are you?"
Mike makes a face, looking back at the large one above the door. "Not really, but that doesn't mean I like them. If I see one in my room, I'm probably going to smash it."
"I suppose that's fair," Rayn says. He leans his chin on his fist, following Mike's eyes back to the spider. "I guess I could take that one outside. But sometimes I'll see them catching a fly or a gnat and that's always kind of fun to watch. It's like…a mini-break from whatever I'm doing."
Mike blinks at him, then shakes his head. "Okay. I hope you realize that since you said that, you're now required to leave the apartment. Step away from the computer and say goodbye to your creepy little friend."
Rayn looks between Mike and the computer screen a few times before he sighs. "Yeah, okay," he says. That's fair."
