"Look at you, my beautiful angel." Ty murmered, holding the tiny body of his day old daughter in his arms while moving back and forth. Carrie smiled warmly as she came out of the bathroom and headed toward the hospital bed. The baby's tiny hand wrapped around Ty's finger and he smiled back at his wife.
"She's perfect."
"She knows who her daddy is." Carrie replied. Ty nodded, feeling strongly for the little being he helped created, lifting her up to kiss her face. He adored the little tuff of auburn hair that he knew she got from his mother, Ingrid. How happy she would have been to see that.
"Honey, we still need to name her, you know." Carrie said, patting the bed space beside her. Ty came over and sat down, still cradling the babe close. Carrie sighed, smiling at her daughter before pulling out a piece of paper. "Time for the list." Ty chuckled. "Oh, goody! Let's do it!" For an hour or so, the new parents went through one name after another.
Ty thought a bit, then named off another. "Mary?"
Carrie shook her head adamantly. "No, too old fashioned."
"Jessica?"
"No, everybody has that name."
Ty thought again. "Dakota."
"Now that's just too country."
Ty chuckled again as he put the baby in the middle of the bed, then flopped down on his back.
"This is hopeless..." He sighed out.
Carrie smiled softly as she got up and walked to the window. "It's not. I just want to find the right name. That's all."
"Ok, honey."
Carrie opened the shades on the window, her eyes immediately focusing on the tiny bit of sunlight coming over the city of Phoenix. Carrie's smile widened as she began to realize how many events had happened here in the city. She had her first date with Ty here, he proposed to her here, met a lot of friends and now...her baby girl was welcomed to the world in this very city.
So...the name in her mind seemed appropriate.
"Phoenix..."
Ty sat up. "Huh?"
"I think her name should be Phoenix."
Ty smiled this time. The name choice to him was perfect. "I love it, Carrie." He then frowned in thought. "Will she have a middle name?" Carrie came over back toward the bed. "Of course. I always wanted to name my daughter's middle name Aliyah."
Ty was confused. He had never heard of that name before. "Aliyah?"
Carrie nodded. "Aliyah was the name of my grandmother. The mother of my mom. I never knew her of course, but when I asked my daddy what the name meant, he told me it meant 'noble.' I loved it and wanted to name my daughter this same name. She's noble...like a princess. Our little princess."
Ty listened and then said the names together. "Phoenix Aliyah Moreland."
Carrie nodded. Ty stared at her and asked, "This is what you want, love?"
"Yes."
"Then that settles it." Ty picked up the tiny one and held her out in front of his face, carefully to hold her head steady.
"Welcome to the world, Phoenix Aliyah Moreland. We can't wait to see what you make of it."
Phoenix blinked sleepily in answer and the two newly made parents were content to watch every sleepy blink.
