Heat radiated steaming tendrils from the bowl. The pale, mashed contents looked uninteresting but looks weren’t everything. Ignoring the temperature he piled a spoonful into his mouth and-
Choked. “The hell?”
“What?” Beside him a pilot turned, wide-eyed. “Something wrong?”
Chime gestured, grimacing; a curious spoonful vanished into the pilot’s mouth. “...That’s disgusting.”
From the serving hatch, DellaRosa’s laugh filled the canteen. Silence fell, as did several stares - including DellaRosa’s - on the furious Chime.
He’d told everyone.
“You bit off more than you could chew there,” the pilot laughed.
Chime glowered at his meal, and ate it anyway.
