"Do you love me?" Romeo asked suddenly. He had been immersed in a book and hadn't even appeared to realize that Alex had walked into the room to watch TV. It seemed that he had noticed.
"Why would you even ask that?" Alex looked genuinely shocked, like he didn't know why Romeo would ask something like that. Romeo can't (won't) tell him the truth. That Romeo heard the message from Ryan on the answering machine and he knew that Alex was cheating on him.
"Just want to know," Romeo takes his eyes off the book and looked nervously over at Alex. He met his boyfriend's eyes.
"Of course I love you," It doesn't seem to have the same conviction in it that it used to when Alex said it. Romeo can't tell if its a complete
lie though, he doesn't know how much truth is hidden in the sentence. Its good enough for Romeo though. He's not sure he would want (could handle) the truth if Alex gave it to him.
