Title: In The Rain
Summary: Jasper finds Ryan standing in the rain.
Notes: All the lyrics are in italics and are from I'll Be There For You by Bon Jovi.
I'll be there for you
These five words I swear to you
When you breathe I want to be the air for you
I'll be there for you
"What the hell are you doing out here?"
"I love the rain." Ryan turned around to see Jasper standing at his back door, arms crossed, leaning against the door frame. Ryan was soaked to the skin, grey t-shirt plastered to his skin as he stood in the downpour.
"You're going to catch a cold."
"I haven't in all the years I've been doing this."
"Do you stand out here in thunderstorms too?"
"I stand under the porch those days. Getting struck by lightening isn't on the top of my list of things to do," Ryan said, dripping with water. "Come on over. The water's great."
"No way," Jasper said, shaking his head and taking an involuntary step backwards.
"What? The big, bad baseball player is scared of a little rain?" Ryan laughed, earning himself a glare from Jasper.
"I don't want to get sick."
"So you are scared." Jasper took a tentative step into the rain before venturing the rest of the way. He walked quickly across the wet grass, sneakers splashing through the mud.
"Happy now?" Jasper asked, standing in front of Ryan, rain slowly soaking through his thin t-shirt and shorts.
"Very," Ryan said with a smirk before wrapping his arms around Jasper, leaning in for a kiss. It was deep and passionate and both of them were panting when they broke apart.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there," Ryan pulled away a little and leaned his head back, letting the cooling rain hit his face. It was a warm October and the cool rain was a refreshing change from the normal heat.
"Its ok. It wouldn't have made a difference."
"How do you know? Maybe I'm a good luck charm," Ryan said, looking at Jasper. His expression turned from joking to serious. "You were in the playoffs and I should have been there to cheer."
"It was in L.A. I don't expect you to fly everywhere and anyways, you went to all the games in Toronto," Jasper said.
"Still should have been there."
"Ryan it doesn't matter to me. You don't have to devote your life to my job," Jasper said with a sigh.
"What are your plans now?" Ryan asked, desperately wanting a change of topics.
"I was thinking about hanging around here for a few days, if its ok with you? And then go home to see the family. After that I have no idea," Jasper said, wrapping an arm around Ryan's waist.
"You better stay here for a few days. I'd never forgive you if you just took the next flight out tonight," Ryan said with a shake of his head. "Come on. Let's go inside."
Ryan tugged at Jasper's wrist and they walked side by side back into the warmth of the house.
