The rain hissed over the rooftop and pitter-pattered steadily into the gutter. The heavy atmosphere muted the crash of the door as he stormed out, his fury rivalling the embracing tempest.
Inside a voice cut through the static, the tone both frantic and furious; it went ignored in favour of the incessant shhh and the soothing chill.
The rain turned traitor and concealed her approach. “Arkadiy, you cannot live like this.”
“I’m a big boy,” he whispered, eyes closed. “I can live how I want.”
Gentle hands gripped his limp fingers. They stood in silence as raindrops masked his despair.
