Summary: Just some silliness that’s been bouncing around my head for awhile. There was never any question in Firebird’s mind what she wanted to be when she grew up.
“Here.”
Knocking on her office door was a given when she was at her work, but the policy wasn’t enforced at Firebird’s home office. As she looked at the bright pink box Nicky Nails dropped on her desk with little regard for the multimillion dollar contracts already occupying the space, she began to rethink her laxness. “What is this?”
“Your memory box. I’ve had it for years but I need the shelf space so it’s yours now.”
“My what?”
Nicky shrugged. “Paloma thought of it. She put in things you made that she thought you’d want later. When she died, I took over but I wasn’t as good at it as she was.”
Firebird carefully pulled off the lid and looked inside. She took the first piece of paper off of the top of a small pile. It was a school project she did in the third grade. Nicky was still standing there so Firebird read it out loud for both of their benefits.
Nicky was grinning when Firebird finished.
She smirked, “I haven’t been enforcing my broccoli referendum, but other than that I’m pretty much on track, I think.”
