Title: Chicken Noodle Soup
Summary: Alex is sick and Lily doesn’t like it.
"Mom, I've got a fever," Alex said as he half-stumbled down the stairs and into the kitchen. His family sat around the table, parents both reading the morning paper while drinking coffee and his twin sister, Lily ate Fruit Loops.
"What did you say dear?" his mother, Denise, asked, folding the paper up and putting on the table.
"I don't feel well. Don't want to go to school," Alex said.
"Don't listen to him Mom. We have a math test today and you know that he hates math," Lily said.
"Shut up Lily," Alex said, sounding pathetic when a coughing fit started.
"Stop it you two," their father, Russ, said with a sigh, as Denise went over to look at their son.
"He has a fever honey," Denise said to her husband. "Come on Alex. Let's go back upstairs so you can rest. Lily finish your cereal and get ready for school."
"Dad I think I have a fever too," Lily said, giving her father puppy eyes.
"Lily," Russ said in a warning tone.
"Fine," Lily grumbled as she took her empty bowl to the sink. She slowly trudged up stairs, mumbling under her breath about the injustices of Alex getting sick and not her.
"How is he?" Russ said as he heard his wife walk back down the stairs.
"He's tired, got a fever and a headache. So miserable," Denise said as she sat down at the table and taking a sip of her coffee.
"I'll stay home with him today," Russ said.
"You don't have any plans? I can always get Max to cover for me," Denise said, knowing that her husband's break in touring were few and far between at times.
"I want to spend time with the twins. I would prefer that they're healthy but I'll take what I can get," Russ said smiling as he started to clear the rest of the table. "You go to work and save some animal's lives. I'll hold the fort down here. I'll make him some chicken noodle soup."
"Save some soup for me," Denise said as she gave Russ a peck on the lips before running back up stairs to finish getting ready and round up Lily. Russ found the children's Tylenol in the cupboard and brought it upstairs to his son, wanting it to work so he could spend some time with his children.
