Summary: Sarah holds Chloe for the first time.
Chloe. That was what Andy and Oz had decided on. Her name was Chloe. Staring down at the infant in her arms, Sarah couldn’t help but be glad that she had quieted down and went to sleep. This was going to be hard enough without her awake, staring at her with those eyes that said she trusted Sarah completely.
She wouldn’t be her mother. She couldn’t be. Not when she had memories of tugging on her mother’s skirt, asking for something, and being completely ignored. Not when she remembered having to wear clothes that never fit right, for years and years, because all she had were clothes that didn’t fit Angie anymore. Not when there was a year of nothing but her parents fighting, with Angie gone and no one to help her stand on her own two feet.
She wanted children, once. But then she had asked Angie, and her answer had startled her into the reality about it. Why would either of them want children? What did they know about parenting? All Angie knew was fists and screams, and all Sarah remembered was dead silence and her own tears. She wouldn’t know how to raise a child.
“I’m going to be your Aunt Sarah,” she whispered, unsure if she could speak any louder. “And everyone is just going to have to be okay with that.”
