Summary: Combat lessons are finally starting for Jhera's class and she has another run in with Darian.
A/N: here's the next part.

After the conversation she had had in the woods with Darian, he had stopped treating her poorly and went back to ignoring her during class. Jhera also found that he was continuing to follower her like he had been for the past weeks. She couldn't figure out what he wast trying to accomplish now, so she decided that she would just sit back and observe for a while to try and figure it all out.

She was thinking about this as she was changing for her combat training class. Letting her thoughts start to drift, she hoped that they were finally deemed "ready" to start actually fighting and not just doing cardio exercises. They were all fine and good every so often, but it just wasn't as satisfying as a good sparring session.

It turned out that she was lucky. The professor made the announcement after all the students in her class had made their way out of the changing rooms that they would be starting to introduce some of the basics of hand-to-hand combat.

"We will continue to do some cardio exercises every so often just to make sure that you all keep up with that. It would be beneficial to continue to do some of these exercises outside of class in your free time. For the next few weeks, we'll be going back and forth between learning the basics individually and using those basics in some controlled partner exercises. In our next class, I will assign you a partner that you will continue to work with for the foreseeable future, unless there are issues between you and your partner. Now, if everyone could form a circle around me. Please make sure to give yourself a few feet of space between your neighbors, for safety's sake."

Once everyone was situated, Jhera looked around the circle. It appeared that many of the girls didn't seem thrilled about the idea of actually starting to learn to fight. They were all standing next to each other and many were shifting and looking about nervously. There only seemed to be one or two other girls in their class who appeared to be at least okay with this new development, if not actually excited about it. She could tell that the boys were all excited, though some of them, like Darian, were good at hiding their excitement. For some reason, Jhera got the impression that he was relieved that they were finally doing something different than cardio. Even though he wasn't showing any visible signs that he was relieved, she recognized it in him and knew that the feeling of relief was echoed in her.

"I am aware that some of you have had past formal training and some of you have likely gotten in fights before, but we are going to start from the very beginning with positioning and the basic movements. As I mentioned, the next few weeks will be very structured, but after that, we will stop with structured exercises and move on to actual sparring. At the end of the year, we will have a tournament where you will show off what you have learned. The winner will be exempt from the final exam, so I expect you all to work hard. That being said let us start with a basic right jab."

For the rest of the class, he explained each little movement in excruciating detail, but Jhera was happy as long as they weren't doing cardio all the time.

From watching the combat training that took place in the Tribe, she could already tell that there were quite a few people in the class who had a natural ability for fighting. She had been the same way when she had started training. It just felt right; the motions were natural to her from the beginning, and she always felt better when she got her body moving in the familiar movements.

Jhera walked back to the dorm to take a quick shower before heading down to lunch. She met Gharak in the cafeteria where they started talking about their classes. Gharak's class had also just started their combat training and they decided that they would continue with their nightly sparring sessions since it would be a while before their classes got to that level.

It seemed like Gharak's class was working in the complete opposite order as her class in their magic practical. While Jhera's class had started working on water magic, Gharak's had moved on to air magic.

His other classes were going well too and he didn't seem to be having any problems with any of the other students in his class.

After lunch, Jhera went to her magic practical after her language class.

she found that she enjoyed this class, even though she was pretty far past the level they were currently at. But she liked the fact that doing basic exercises over and over again in class allowed her to work on subtle improvements to her concentration and focus while working a kind of magic that wasn't exactly her strong point.

they had started working on more complicated water magic, but she was still fairly far ahead of the rest of the class. They had been progressing slowly since a good portion of the class was having some issues controlling or sensing the magic in the water

Jhera had a lot of homework that she needed to do, so she told Gharak that she'd come find him when she was done. She was also thinking about telling him about the whole situation with Darian since he had continued following her.

When her homework was finally done, she walked down the hall to his room and knocked on the door. She was surprised when Darian opened the door and she was greeted with, "he's not here."

She was a little startled, but quickly got over it and pushed past him and into the room. "I'll just leave him a note then." From behind her, she could hear him let out a quiet laugh before shutting the door. Hearing the laugh, the corner of her mount tuned up.

Walking over to Gharak's desk, she dug around for a piece of paper and something to write with. As much as Darian had started to treat her better, she still didn't have any reason to trust him. Thus, she decided that she would write the note in the ancient language.

"Why are you still following me?" She asked before turning around to look at him. "You gave me the impression that you would just be ignoring me from now on, not just during the school day."

"I thought I'd just try and get information out of you by annoying you once more."

"Well it's still not working."

"I know. I didn't think it would, but I figured you wouldn't expect me to continue with it since you already knew,"  he said trying to suppress a smile as she watched him with her arms crossed and her eyebrows raised.

"You really are an idiot, you know that right?"

He let out a huge grin before replying, "I know."

For this answer, Darian found himself on the receiving end of a look from Jhera before she broke out laughing. He found himself joining her as she rolled her eyes and left the room.

Letting his curiosity get the better of him, Darian crossed the room to take a look at the note that Jhera had left for his roommate. He was surprised to find it written in a strange language, but something about it sparked his memory.

Then he remember and went to grab his tablet to look at some of the pictures that his language professor had sent them. Flipping through a few of them, he was sure that the note she had written was done in the ancient language.

He sat there stunned for a moment before going to grab his journal. he had no idea how she had been able to write in it, since no one  had been able to translate it before. It was also pretty clear that Gharak also could understand it and he couldn't believe that he had actually found out a piece of very interesting information about her and potentially her entire Tribe. He just wasn't quite ready to share this specific piece of information with his father and uncle yet either.
