Albert looked at the jobs he had to finish today. He sighed nothing worse than people freaking out when a dead body walked around. Didn’t they know it only caused the dead body to become frantic? Albert shook his head pulling out the document to read.

“So what’s on the agenda today?”

“Hmm, oh hi Susie,” Albert said smiling at the ghost who floated to his side.

“Hello Al, what’s on the agenda today?” Susie asked again.

“I have to control a retired captain and his two men are causing havoc with the new recruits over in the training area and recruitment office. Some necromancer made the rookie mistake of giving the soldiers one command. He didn’t follow it up with a finishing command. Bad mistake now the bodies don’t know what to do and is terrorizing others. Well they’re not, but you know how some demons are. I’m just glad they didn’t try to fight them.” Albert said.

Susie giggled, “I love the fact that you’re not bothered by this. Many demons cringe at the mention of the dead, but you’re acting like someone let their pet out.”

Albert smiled pushing his dark hair off his shoulder. “Someone has to do it. I don’t know why demons have a problem with the dead. Amulet and Arcadia too for that matter,”

“Amulet and Arcadia should be used to walking corpses. How many work for the council and government again?” Susie asked.

Albert laughed, “Many, but they’re not viewed as corpses.” He closed the file turning to Susie.

“So do you want to come with me today?”

Susie nodded, “Yes, maybe today you can find a suitable body for me.”

“How can I? You’re such a fussy ghost.” Albert said.

Susie pouted, “No I’m not you just haven’t find the right body for me.”

Albert laughed, “I’ll be sure to alert you when I find it. Maybe I can put you in a male body.”

Susie grinned, “Don’t use me for your fantasies.”

“Now that is weird.” Albert said getting out of his chair.

Susie giggled as she followed him out of the room.

*~*~*~*

Albert laughed as Susie steered the car. “Are you sure you don’t need me to drive?”

“No, possessing a car is easy.” Susie said from the steering wheel.

Albert smiled he was sure having a ghost might seem weird to most people, but it was normal to him. He met Susie when he was doing his rounds around the town of Rumond. Susie died in a werewolf raid of her village during the war. She was wandering around trying to find her family when she bumped into Albert. Susie was surprised that Albert wasn’t afraid of her. She was even more surprised when he offered to hear her story.

Albert felt bad that Susie had trouble finding her family and offered to help. After he found her family, Susie didn’t want to leave. She stayed with Albert working with him in his office and counseling new ghosts. Susie loved messing with humans who couldn’t see her. Albert didn’t have the heart to stop her. Susie was harmless well he thought so.

Susie parked at the army base. Albert got out messing with his gloves before pulling out the file again. Susie floated to his side. “So, where do we need to go?”

“It says here we need to go to the East side of the base.” Albert said.

“Then that’s where we’ll go.” Susie said.

Albert nodded closing the file again and placing it in his messenger bag. He turned to Susie.
“Well time for work.”

Susie smiled, “Yep it is,”

Albert grinned on his way to the East side of the base. He’s sure he made quite a picture with Susie floating next to him. His dark hair pulled into a low ponytail. He pushed his fringe away from his glasses. It was always easier to see like that. He’s pretty sure his outfit was surprising on the Army base too. Instead of wearing a uniform, he wore black pants, a black and white stripped shirt, and a black trench coat over it. His pendant clinked along with his other necklaces around his neck. He adjusted the bracelet around his wrist looking up at Susie.

“Now where did the inspiration for this outfit come from?” Albert asked.

“I was watching music videos the other day and came across some J-rock ones. I like the style so I helped put this outfit together for you. I think you look nice.” Susie said.

“Even the lipstick? I don’t normally wear black when it isn’t Halloween.” Albert said.

“Yes, because the lipstick completes the look. Besides, you can pull it off very well. I only wish you would wear some of your Victorian stuff.” Susie said pouting.

Albert smiled, “Like I said it’s not Halloween yet.”

Susie sighed, “It can’t get here fast enough.”

Albert laughed as he rounded the corner. He saw a group of recruits looking around while trying to finish their sets. Albert knew that look. He held back a sigh walking over to the recruit standing in front of the group.

“Excuse me, are you the leader here?” Albert asked.

“Yes I am, my name is Bill. Nice to meet you,” He held out his hand. Albert looked at it before shaking it lightly. “I’m Albert the necromancer you called for. This is my assistant Susie.”

Susie waved giggling at Bill’s amazed expression.

“Oh good come on they’re over here.” Bill said pointing over to the gym.

Albert nodded, “Alright, what have they been doing?”

“Making the recruits train day and night with little food or rest. You know Fire Demons don’t need much food, but going without for two weeks is pushing it a bit.” Bill said.

Albert nodded, “Understandable, who was the necromancer that did this?”

“His name was Peter. He said that the bodies would go down after awhile.” Bill said.

Albert shook his head, “That’s such a rookie mistake.” He grumbled under his breath. He looked back to Bill. “Peter made a mistake he didn’t give the dead another command. Not to mention he’s not experienced enough to keep them going for this long. Where is he?”

Bill pointed over to the slumped figure against the wall. “We tried to give him water and food, but he’s not eating.”

“That’s so dangerous. Thanks for telling me. Can you keep your men busy while I take care of everything?” Albert asked.

Bill nodded, “Yes I can. We still have our reps to finish.”

“Ok, don’t let anyone go over there for awhile. If you do they’ll be caught up in the spell and that won’t be good.” Albert said.

“What happens if they are caught in the spell?” Bill asked.

“They’ll be like me. They’ll be a ghost who can’t enter their body for awhile because they’re a food source for the reanimated bodies.” Susie said smiling.

Bill resisted a shudder before nodding in acknowledgment. “Noted, I’ll set up a barrier where no one can enter it.”

“Thanks, well let me get to work.” Albert said. He nodded to Bill one more time before walking over to the gym. Susie followed behind him giggling. “Did you see the look on his face? Priceless,”

“You didn’t have to go into detail. I think you scared the poor guy.” Albert said.

“I don’t see why. He’s a demon and in the army. This should be nothing new.” Susie said.

“I know, but you know how people react to necromancy. They get it confused with necrophilia. It’s two completely different things. I don’t know how people get it confused, but they do.” Albert said approaching Peter.

“I don’t get that either. It’s totally different and people should research it more. That mistake is insulting.” Susie said.

Albert smiled, “Oh Susie it’s fine as long as no one thinks I do the second thing. Now that would be insulting.”

Susie giggled as Albert settled down next to Peter. He touched Peter’s shoulder lightly waking the man gently. Peter’s eyes fluttered he looked up at Albert in confusion.

“A-Albert?” Peter said softly.

Albert smiled, “Hi Peter, I’m here to help. Here drink this it’ll help you.” He reached in his bag handing Peter a vial. Peter gratefully accepted it drinking it down quickly. “T-Thanks,”

“No problem. Peter, why did you keep the spell going this long? For a necromancer mage your level that’s dangerous.” Albert said.

“I practiced it a hundred times literally so I thought I got it right. I mean you got it and I…didn’t want to let you down. I’m sorry.” Peter said looking down at the ground sadly.

Albert squeezed his shoulder, “It’s ok I just want you to be alright. Now is the spell still going?”

Peter nodded he dropped the vial as his body started to shake. He gripped his arms screaming in pain. “I-It hurts!”

“Damn it Peter. Susie keep an eye on him make sure he finishes the vial and doesn’t fall asleep. It’s easy to fall into a coma when your magic is low.” Albert said.

Susie nodded, “Got it, you can count on me.”

Albert smiled, “Great, I got to stop this spell.” He stood up taking his bag off. He walked over to the door of the gym entering it quickly. Albert scanned the area automatically finding the captain and his two lieutenants berating a group of recruits. He walked over to them pulling off the star shaped pendant.

“Worg won!” Albert shouted as the pendant enlarged into a staff. He hit the tip in the ground getting the attention of the three dead bodies.

“What were your orders?” He asked in Deali a language spoken among Necromancers.

“To train the new recruits, but I haven’t seen any progress.” The captain said glaring at the exhausted demons.

Albert hit his staff against the ground again. “Were you given any end commands?”

“No we were only told to train and do nothing else.” The lieutenant said.

“Those commands are now voided by order of Albert Silver, Faust order First Class. The spell cast by Peter Normander Faust Order, Second Class is invalid. You have finished what you have been called here for. The recruits are trained you have done your job. Now what are your names?”

“Captain Oliver Gloger.”

“Lieutenant First Class, Christopher Anderson.”

“Lieutenant Second Class, Aaron Devillard.”

“Oliver Golger, Christopher Anderson, and Aaron Devillard it is time for you to return home. Do not come back until I order it. Understand?”

Oliver, Christopher, and Aaron nodded. Albert pulled a loose strand of hair out wrapping it around his staff. He tapped it against the ground three times closing his eyes. “Eodnvu, Elevardu, Eraeppasis! Go back home and do not come back until I approve it. You are released!” He hit the ground again as a blue shockwave spread across the ground of East side of the base.

Susie smiled when Peter stopped shaking and sat up alert. He turned to Susie in relief. “Albert did it.”

“He sure did. How are you?” Susie asked.

Peter finished the rest of the vial with a satisfied smile. “Much better thanks, sorry about the trouble.”

Susie waved it away. “Don’t worry as long as you’re ok. That’s what really important.”

“Yeah, but I had it all figured it. I don’t know what went wrong.” Peter said.

“I think it’s the level you used. You’re second class right?” Susie asked.

Peter nodded, “Yeah,”

“Well this was a first class spell. It takes a lot of magic and can tire a beginner out. Next time try a spell that will only last for a few hours, not a few days.” Susie said.

Peter smiled sheepishly, “I’ll remember that next time.”

Susie smiled back as Albert stumbled out of the gym with a group of recruits behind him. He scratched the back of his neck. “It’s fine I just did what I had to do. That’s all.”

“But you saved us!”

“We can rest now!”

“Hooray!”

“Thank you!”

“Thank you so much!”

Albert smiled, “It’s no problem. Don’t worry about it.” He waved one more time before turning to Peter. His eyes soften in concern. “Are you ok?”

Peter nodded, “Much better now that you broke the spell. Thanks Albert.”

“It’s no problem. I’m just glad you’re alright. Next time call me if you need help ok?” Albert asked placing a hand on Peter’s shoulder.

Peter nodded, “Ok,”

“Good, now let me find Bill and tell him it’s over.” Albert said adjusting his pendant.

“That’s going to be fun.” Susie said.

“Try not to scare him this time.” Albert said.

Susie giggled, “I’ll try.”

Peter watched Albert and Susie walk away to find Bill again. He smiled feeling a bit giddy that Albert touched his shoulder.

He was concerned about me. He also told me I could call him. Man he’s so cool. Peter thought resisting the urge to jump in the air.

“Hey, aren’t you coming with us?” Susie asked.

“Yeah we can get something to eat after this.” Albert said.

Peter nodded quickly, “I’m coming.” He jogged over to them wiping his sweaty palms against his jeans.

Albert smiled when Peter fell in step with them. “Good thing that’s over, huh?”

Peter nodded, “Yeah it is.”

Susie looked behind her at the group of recruits still talking about Albert and the way he did things. She turned back to Peter who looked like a birthday and Christmas came early. Susie grinned Looks like Albert has some more fans.

Albert’s job would never cease to amaze her.
