Characters: the planet!
Summary: When
mssunnysage and I make a new universe, we REALLY make a new universe. XD These are more for our reference than because they’ll be super pertinent to the story, but we thought they were just too awesome not to share. Sunny did the hard part and came up with the bazillion names; I just did the grunt work. The
original map, but as you can see we changed things up quite a bit. The wonderful cartography photoshop brushes were from
here.
Terra
Details of Note:
• The world is loosely divided into five major powers. The City States, Eskessa, The Holy Empire of Eden, Great Brundin, and the Myridian Empire. The City States and Eskessa are not ambitious on a global level, they’re more about protecting themselves from everyone else with greedy eyes. The Holy Empire of Eden is the antagonist of the world with the longest history of power but it’s slowly weakening as the Myridian Empire gains more strength. Great Brundin is small but very ambitious and has a strong presence in the Zone of Discovery and quite a few privateers of its own.
• The Myridian Empire (in purple) is the main focus of the story. The Myridian Empire is a relatively new development in the world, having won its independence from the Holy Empire of Eden (in orange). Myridia is a conglomeration of the five large islands in the southwest corner of the map (see next map for more details). Myridia won its independence first then went about freeing other islands from Eden’s rule.
• The Myridian Empire and Eden are bitter enemies at war with each other on numerous fronts. The most intense fighting is taking place on the Face Islands (the islands south of the Area of Heavy Pirating between the two empires). Many main characters fought in the war for the Island of Ita.
• The large continent is loosely divided into three parts: a large collaboration of city states in the east that stick together for protection, the nomadic tribal areas, and Eskessa. Eskessa is a powerful but neutral country that controls the entrance into the gulf where the Zone of Discovery lies, and has gotten quite fat skimming passage fees off every treasure ship that comes and goes through there.
• The Zone of Discovery is just that: a recently discovered zone in the nomadic tribes that has all sorts of goodies like gold. As one might imagine, it’s a rather chaotic place right now, and the nomads aren’t pleased with the foreigners that are invading their hunting grounds but they’ve got other problems to deal with for now.
• The East Continent is much further away than it looks. Think Pacific Ocean on either side. We just didn’t think the map needed to be any bigger! By and large, people don’t bother with the East Continent. Only the bravest pioneers are trekking in that direction.
Myridia
Detail of Note:
• Myridia is technically comprised of five countries (Asparas, Indini, Ursilene, Muryan, Fendoree), but the five are extremely co-dependent on each other and citizens of any of these countries can travel freely to the others. Each country has their own capitol where they attend to domestic affairs, but matters that concern all of Myridia are solved on Asparas.
• Asparas is entirely covered by one enormous city with multiple districts. This acts as the capitol city of the Myridian Empire. It’s one giant political circus: Parliament, the Emperor’s Palace, and Noble Court are all located here. A great deal of the story takes place on Asparas.
• Indini has decent agricultural output, but it’s primarily known for its excellent shipbuilding.
• Ursilene is the bread-basket of Myridia. The northern half is forest and the southern half is very fertile farming land. Lady Sutherland’s estate is located on the northern edge of Lake Danka.
• Muryan is prairie and its primary export is meat in the form of cows, sheep, and other grazing animals. It also acts as the primary island for military training, both army and navy.
• Fendoree has a large mountain range along its eastern border that makes numberous inlets and cliffs that are an ideal place for docking airships. As such, a lot of international trading and privateering business goes on here. The western half is dense rainforest protected by the government after it was nearly wiped out for resources during the fight for independence from the Holy Empire of Eden. The Keegary Estate (Nathaniel and Thomasin’s title) is located on the coast just outside of Valholt.
Pirate Zone
Details of Note:
• Almost all of these islands have got multiple claims of authority on them. Because of the Gold Rush in the Zone of Discovery, all the major countries have tried to take over these islands to help ensure a safer passage back home. No country has really succeeded at that endeavor because of interference from pirates, other countries, and even the natives. It’s a rather lawless place at this point.
• Najera is the most lawless of all the islands, so of course it’s a preferred stopping/hiding spot for pirates. If anyone wants information on a pirate, they go to Najera. At the risk of their own lives, of course.
