Oh, Isobel! I bow once again at your amazing gift for writing beautiful descriptions; I could picture this perfectly and it felt heartbreaking. Isobel has got one hell of a time, poor girl.

Don't worry, Isobel's a tough chick. She just has a bit of a weird few days following her unwanted marriage...

Thanks!

Haha, I loved describing that dress! In case you couldn't tell. XD And yep, it is Ashdown's mother. She's a very strong character usually but her marriage to James Ashdown breaks her at the time. She valued her independence.

Thanks!

Wow! There's a lot of Ashdown'ness in that person there. I feel sorry for her, though in a way it's kind of tempered by the wondering imagary you've woven of the dying dress. Nice one :)

Yep-- Isobel is Ashdown's mother and I think her bitterness reflects on Ashdown in not such a good way. Thanks!

She tore the sleeves from her gown and left them-crumpled worms of velvet that died upon the grass.

Your ability to write description always amazes me but I think this has to be one of my favorite lines from you. I can't even tell you why.

Isobel will get over her unwanted marriage sooner or later ;)

Yeah, Isobel's a little heartbroken about losing Percival but then she decides to continue seeing him anyway. And thank you very much!

Seconding (I hope) everyone who read this: the description is FANTASTIC. Just, oh, so amazing. From Isobel trying to escape the only way she can to the inevitability of that "wedding ring" in the last sentence. Great, amazing job.

Aw, thank you! I went all-out on the description here because I love describing clothes but usually I try to cut it out for the sake of not clogging up the story. This seemed the perfect one to revolve around a dress and the ring.
