Tilnik smiled cruelly from his new throne. The now second eldest member of the Shin'til family loved the look on his shocked brother's face. He laid his own thin frame casually in the new throne.

Ran continued to stare in shock. His father couldn't have been serious to make his brother king. Not that he had anything against Tilnik but he was not a responsible person. He certainly wasn't ready to rule a planet. Ran stared at his sister, the one who should be ruling. She should be the one there, reading their father's last wishes, not Tilnik.

Tilnik continued his speech, "as I am now king, I must take care of business. First of all, I'd like to announce the beginning of a new time for our people. Too long have we been idly pushed aside. We've been treated as a comedy act. Our tiger mixed blood's been a joke. It is time we prove otherwise. We have technology we have strength, it's about time we showed the rest of the universe we exist."

"No," Ran couldn't help but shout. He was immediately looked upon with shocked eyes from the other twelve members of the council on the room.

Tilnik raised a brow, "What was that, brother?"

Ran had to speak up for his dead father. Even if no one else understood what was happening, he knew Tilnik would have war. He was right in a way, the Tal race could grow. Their father was setting a plan to introduce the advanced technology his race had into the world. The way his brother spoke though was as if war was the only way to be noticed. Ran couldn't stand idly by.

"I said no, Tilnik. Even if you are the chosen king, how can you speak as though war is our only option. You know our father had plans to, " Ran was cut off by his brother.

"Father's plans were slow. They rotted before they had any success. We need more than just a try. We need action. Father's ideas are as useless as he is now."

Ran forgot completely that he was a part of the council following the king, he only saw a bratty brother going way too far. He flew to the throne a few feet in front of him and landed a hard punch to the cocky mouth of his younger brother.

He failed to hear the shouts of no from his elder sister, Jesuay. He almost hit the cocky, now shocked, face again when the strong arms of guards pulled him away from his brother.

Tilnik had a snarl on his face. Then, rather abruptly, he smiled sharply.

"Why brother, your attitude's just gained the punishment of attacking the king," Tilnik's voice rang in the quiet hall.

Jesuay tried to stop her brother from speaking more by pleading with him. she was silenced by the guards as Tilnik's voice announced, "Ran Shin'til, you are hereby banned from this planet. You are to be on the next ship leaving here. Leave my sight."

Ran fought against the guards pull but it was useless he couldn't change a king's command.

Ran awoke abruptly. He panted, out of breath from the emotions. The memories of the last time he saw his planet pursued hi even in his sleep. He calmed his breathing. He reminded himself he would get back there, somehow, someday, and right the wrongs of his brother.

Ran shoved the sheets off of him. He needed a strong drink.
