Summary: Cordelia Blackledge visits the Facility and meets one of the Children.

Notes: Inkling of an idea... I’ll possibly expand on this someday.

Of course she would never be able to talk to all of the Blackledge Children: all she could do was choose a few at random and hope. Her brother didn’t allow many people into the Facility and the media had gone into a frenzy for the first few months of the Project, wondering what in the world was going on inside. Cordelia was one of the lucky few allowed in.

Except she didn’t always feel so lucky.

The boy in front of her looked in his grave expression like a little old man, pale skin translucent against his black uniform, standing still as a statue, diminutive face framed by neat dark hair. Only his eyes moved: they were huge, grey, fawn-like eyes with thick lashes-and they were so very solemn for a four-year-old.

“What’s your name?” she asked, throat suddenly feeling dry. You should tell someone. Tell someone what’s going on here. These children aren’t being treated right. But Gideon was her younger brother...

In response, the child laid a finger on the red band fastened around one arm, emblazoned with his serial number. His eyes moved away from her face to the floor, where they seemed most comfortable.

“Could you say it for me?” she asked, gently as she could. The boy looked back up at her with those round, troubled eyes and then they slid away to the side.

“VC-11,” he said in a voice unused to talking.
