Mamie's tea cup grew cold in her hands as she stared out the window, lost in her thoughts.

When a knock came at the door, Mamie started. She placed her cup of cold tea on the table and walked over to the door to answer it.

“Why hello Tom,” she said with her usual cheery smile. “Whatever brings you here at this time of night?”

“I thought you might feel lonely in the house by yourself and I decided to come over to give you some company.” Tom shuffled his feet a bit and failed to look Mamie in the eye.

Smiling that knowing smile everyone has, Mamie said, “You know what? I am feeling lonely without my children. Company would be very welcome, won't you come in?”

Tom smiled and walked into the small cottage, allowing Mamie to shut the door.

“Would you like some tea?”

Tom nodded.

Mamie kept a close watch on Tom's face as she poured him a cup of tea. “Now, Tom, why don't you tell me the true reason you are here.”

Title: If All Your Friends Jumped Off A Cliff
Summary: Aaron stands up for himself.
Back to School Challenge for Malt

Aaron stood facing himself in the mirror. Brown eyes met brown eyes in a staring contest he couldn't win.

“I won't do it. I refuse to do it. If you try to make me, I'll go to the professor.” Aaron's voice wavered a bit as he spoke.

Closing his eyes, he tried again with a steadier voice. “I won't do it. You can't make me do it. I won't. I refuse. I will not break any more rules.”

“Excuse me?” Meghan said from the doorway.

Aaron turned to face her. “I won't do it.”

“You won't do what?”

“Break the rules. I refuse to break the rules with you anymore. I will not allow you to break the rules anymore either. You nearly killed those travellers with your storm and you hardly seem to care.”

Meghan's eyes narrowed as she glared at Aaron. “Who are you to tell me what I can or cannot do? You break the rules yourself, sneaking out at night with your girl.”

“Maybe so, but I don't endanger other people's lives.”

“No? That's not how I see it. And believe me, if you try to stop me from having fun, I will weave a tale so well about you that you'll believe it. So, if I were you, I would just let things be, because Aaron, you don't want me as an enemy.” Meghan turned and walked out of the room, leaving Aaron to think about which choice he would make.

Title: In Front Of Your Nose
Summary: Barbara's thoughts about Talbot and Sheehan
Back to School Challenge for Malt

I said it when Talbot first introduced me to Sheehan, and I still stand by my thought. There is something there. They are not just friends.

Of course, neither of them can actually see it. Talbot is convinced Sheehan sees him as a friend or like a brother. I don't know how he can't see that she is absolutely one hundred percent in love with him.

When Talbot leaves me with Sheehan and goes to do chores around her farm, Sheehan asks me questions about what he's like at home. She wants to know everything about him but she already knows more than I do. When I tell her that, she starts talking about these “sweet” things that Talbot has done. I always make her stop before she goes on about how handsome Talbot is. I mean, I have to live with the guy and pretend he's my brother, I just don't want to know these things.

And then Sheehan will ask me if Talbot ever asks about her. As if he could go a day without saying her name.

Honestly, he goes on and on about her when she's not there. Talbot has told me how pretty and kind Sheehan is. He waxes poetic about the way the sunlight shines on her hair or how her eyes sparkle when she laughs. It is borders on nauseating and sometimes crosses over.

One of these days, I'm going to lock them in a room together and tell them to go at it. Or maybe I should just tell Mamie and get her to do something about it. Then again, Mamie probably knows already. That woman doesn't miss a thing, unlike her son.

Back to School Challenge for Malt

1000 years or more ago
I was born a fresh babe
Into the world I came
My mother's pride and joy

Now, I have grown
Old and wrinkled
I have lived my life
Several times over

I expected to die
With a bang
With a catastrophic event

Where winds would roar
And the seas would rise up
And lightening would crash to the earth

But there was nothing
There were no tears
No regrets in the eyes of my killer
For I was killed

I did not die of natural causes
I could not die of natural causes

And for this,
They killed me
Without a thought
Without a regret
Without a tear
I am dead

Edit- Apparently I can't count. There are four here, not three.

[topping] sprinkles, [extra] malt, [challenge] black raspberry, [topping] hot fudge
