This is such a sweet piece. A very nice portrayal of the beginning and end of their friendship.

As for your question, boarding schools in England were privately run either by individuals, churches or charities. It was up to the individual school as to what it taught or didn't teach. Therefore, I would say it's quite possibly that one of them taught violin.
