Dusk dropped onto the city, startling with colors of blaring pink and gold.
Not even those colors could brighten Erin's demeanor. Head weighing heavily in one hand, she leaned against her secretary with its scattered stationary. Her clothes were similarly strewn across the cramped room in a trail from her door - cap, coat, boots vest...her hairpins lay in a tangle next to her elbow.
Not one to wallow in self-pity, she allowed herself a long moment to wish that her lifestyle was her own choice.
But she wasn't calling the shots anymore.
At least, not the important ones.
