Onecount - Chocolate Chip Mint #19, Sour Apple #28

I've decided to start updating more frequently, with one or two pieces per post. So no more slogging through four- or five-counts, at least not for now. :P

I'm sorry.

Two little words that refused to feel truthful in her mouth. They fought to escape every time she passed him. Every time she saw him flinch at Hana's green gaze.

She tried. Opened her mouth once in a while, but he never acknowledged it. He simply breezed past as if she didn't exist.

I'm sorry.

She wrote them down on a scrap of paper, two little words that took so little time to write, and then she stared at them for a while. Was she? Should she be?

Her lip curled. The paper burnt in the fire as any other paper would. She watched it die with something like satisfaction.

I can't be sorry I killed her. But I am sorry I caused you pain.

The words were longer, and they felt better when she mouthed them to herself in the mirror. They looked better on the paper when she wrote them out, in careful flowing script that she usually reserved for signatures.

The paper was longer, to fit the words, and it rustled noisily when it slipped under the door. She remained, forehead pressed against the wood, long enough to hear the scratchy sound of it being unfolded; then she ran, one hand clutching her shoes.

I'm sorry I didn't tell you how much I hate her.

He still didn't look at her in the corridors. The sight of Hana's eyes still made him twitch as if struck. He still played when she danced, but impersonally, and his eyes remained on the piano keys.

But she found a green stone waiting outside her room one day, and Hana told her it came from him.

Perhaps it was his way of saying I'm sorry I can't forgive you, either.
