Summary: Introducing Ian
Notes: So, Ian is actually a character that was born from an AU on this storyline that I've been playing around with in my head for about a week. I've been trying to have almost all characters from this story show up in some capacity in the AU, so when Ian showed up there, he had to be translated back here. And he immediately volunteered for this spot, which I've been wanted to do for a while. I just didn't have a character that worked for it.
This story takes place between
this one and
this one, in case anyone is interested.
I think I may take a hiatus from writing for a bit after this one and spend two or three days just reading everyone else's work. I'm getting behind on that bit!
Ian had been lazing around on random rooftops around Chicago for days. He tried to stick to building that were less than 5 stories tall so he could see people below him. He was keeping an eye out for some very specific people, and he wanted to be able to see faces. But there were a lot of people in Chicago, and none of them were the ones he wanted. He wasted away days, lying on the edges of rooftops and making random people trip on the street below him. It was always amusing to watch them pick themselves up quickly, look around the sidewalk for whatever could have tripped them. He loved their look of bewilderment because nothing was ever there. He knew there were others like himself staking out all of downtown Chicago. No one knew where the 'rebels' (as Cassandra had grown fond of calling them) were hiding out. With Emily in charge, they were likely to stay very low. Cassandra was sure if they waited long enough, the rebels would reveal themselves. They didn't need to go snooping, just hold multiple stake-outs all over the city.
Starting to feel a cramp from lying in one place for so long, Ian jumped up. He moved to one end of the building, and started to run as fast as he could, taking a gigantic leap from the end of the building and landing rather deftly a rooftop twenty feet away. He chuckled to himself he did. He had always been good at his homo-telekinesis, but learning to apply it to himself had brought him far too much enjoyment. He was faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Well....okay, he was only able to do the last one, but one out of three wasn't bad.
“Cam. Hand it over. Now.” Ian froze, then tiptoed his way over to the edge of the building, toward the voice. They were standing just outside of an alleyway. Two were facing each other, one was standing behind them. One of the two that were facing each other was pulling things handing out of his pocket and giving it to the other. As the two were going through this, the third one who was standing a bit away turned suddenly and started to run.
“Isaac!” cried the one emptying his pockets. “Isaac!”
“Gotcha,” Ian whispered to himself. Taking another running leap, Ian followed Isaac along the rooftops as well as he could. Isaac kept changing directions at random. For a while, Ian thought that Isaac was onto him and was trying to shake him off. Once or twice, he almost lost him in the sea of buildlings. It was almost an hour later when he finally started to slow down. He was right along the lake, just heading toward Millennium Park. Ian jumped down from the building into an abandoned alley, turned the corner, and followed him at a safe distance. He was starting to wonder if he'd followed the right person. Isaac didn't seem to be going anywhere in particular. Would he be going back to their hideout tonight? Ian followed as Isaac wandered to a bench in Grant Park and sat down. Ian waited, as the sun slowly started to set. Ian was starting to get a cramp in the position he was in by the time he moved again. Ian followed, eventually making his way back up to the rooftops as he went. He allowed himself another satisfied chuckle as he watch the boy enter a small door around a corner in an alleyway. He grabbed his cell phone and hit '9' on speed-dial. When he got an answer he said two words: “Found Them.”
