I think, so far, Kairn's and Sethan's are my favorite, because I actually managed to work in some stuff that was really NEW, where Lyssa and Reida have felt more like rehashing things.
I've been meaning to ask you (and if you do, don't blurt out details here) since you came in late, do you know the Lyssa/Ski/Mara secret? Because I'm realizing this reads differently if you do or don't.

Also, the last one makes me nervous. D:

Sometimes I think she might be a little cliche - hot tempered fire mage and all - but I suppose some things become cliche for good reason and it seems to work for her.
She does have a serious problem with the bottle :(

And, I think it would only be cliche if Lyssa wasn't as well-rounded as she is. It seems like a legitimate extension of her personality, which also has a lot of other elements to it. If she were a mage of a different element we'd probably get a very different impression of her, and then it wouldn't be her!

I actually had a bit of trouble with making sure ice was represented. The funny thing is, if she had a clue and tried, she could do things with ice just as she does with fire. (Fire is a bit of a misnomer where her goddess is concerned - the powers actually relate to temperature in general)

yeah, around others she can manage to be a bit tougher and careless and all (though I don't think those close to her are really fooled) but get her alone and she doesn't really cope terribly well. When I first started the story, I never really saw her that way - I kind of glossed over the whole umpteen years between when the squad was together and when things come to a head, but now I've spent a lot more time making them live those years and I think both characters and story have gained depth in unexpected places for it.

Extra character development is always an exciting prospect! Makes me glad that you've had them "live" all those years between through your writing. :) Like there was a prize at the end of that rainbow of writing. ^^

though sometimes I feel a bit guilty that I spend sooo much time developing and enjoying characters and not getting much of a move on the plot
