Notes: Hi, I'm Mel and this is my first RaT! I come from the WriYe community (hi!). :) I think I did everything right (except for the author tag part obviously!). This story is a scifi-fantasy (not too much science, my brain can't handle it) and if you're curious about what this is even about you can read it here.

system failure imminent. warning. system failure on rear port engine imminent.
warning. system failure on life support imminent.
warning. system failure--

“I really wish you wouldn't.” He was talking to the ship, to the mindless voice of it. It had been programmed to sound female. As if that helped the situation. The calm, controlled robotic droning over and over again. Telling him all the things that were failing, or had already failed. The ship was leaning dangerously to the left, due to the port engine's recent failure. But in the whole list, the only thing that he absolutely needed to work was the life support. “Please, please. Not the life support. Please.” Of course, pleading with the ship did nothing. It kept repeating itself. There was no way to turn it off. Karolek fidgeted with the controls, trying to get anything, everything to divert its remaining power to life support.

“What is going on?” Merisi, who had been sitting calmly since they had taken off had unbuckled her belt and got up. The alarms had been sounding for the past five minutes and he had assured her it was all normal procedure for leaving the atmosphere. He had lied.

“Nothing, nothing.” He ignored her and continued to work.

warning system failure imminent. life support levels at 65%. remaining time until total shutdown : 25 minutes.

“No, no no no!” He yelled at the screen in vain. The list started over with the port engine failure again. The ship seemed to list a little more, causing him to stumble.
“What was that? What happens in twenty five minutes?”

“It means we have twenty five minutes to fix whatever is causing this failure.” He sounded a lot calmer than he felt.

“And what if we don't?”

“Surely you have an active enough imagination, Merisi. It's the damn life support, what do you think is going to happen?”
