Summary: Andrea spends the night at Barrick's new place, and asks him a difficult question.
Author's notes: Over the last few months I've had a few malts that have been waiting to be finished, and finally I have the opportunity. This has actually been sitting in my writing book, but I forgot to type it up in the rush to complete assignments. This is from the 'What If' game from awhile back, and the question was 'What if your character had one wish?' I had to write Barrick, post-David breakup. This takes place when Barrick is nineteen, shortly after moving out of his parents' house, and Andrea has spent the night.
“What if you had one wish?”
Barrick slowed as he washed the dishes, coming to a stop after a moment. Andrea watched him intently, her short golden hair still tousled from sleeping on his couch.
“So? What would you wish for?”
He thought of everything that had happened to him, of Von, of the scar on his back. He thought of David, and how he had met Von only a month after he had split up with David. From that moment his life had been changed forever.
“I wish I had never broken up with David back then. I wish…” Barrick trailed off, his voice fading away. Looking down into the soapy water, he began to wash dishes again.
Andrea didn’t need to hear anything more to understand. Hesitantly, she stepped close to her brother and rested a comforting hand on his shoulder. Together they stood there, wishing for a different past.
