Lonnie found him in the library and assumed he was hiding, didn't notice that Mike had chosen a table in view of the door, not tucked away between the shelves.
"So..." Lonnie said, tugging at the straps of his backpack. "I haven't seen you in a while."
Mike closed his book. "Yeah. I guess not."
"Is the the part where I ask...what the hell happened and where have you been?"
"Nope."
"Hm." Lonnie paused. "Well, um...you want to go to the Taco Cart?"
Mike hesitated just long enough to make, "Okay," sound like a concession.
haha, I had a specific instance in mind for this, but it turned out pretty typical.
