I like seeing these slivers of Lyssa and Ski's sort-of-domestic life with little Mara. And I was chuckling a bit at Kairn's cooking mishaps, but I'm glad they found something he was better at ;)
“Percy?” said Lyssa. “You know I once-” She caught herself, head snapping back to meet Ski’s steely blue gaze, and hastily cleared her throat. “Er, nice fellow, Percy.”
LOL at that. Oh Lyssa, never change...and of course Mom is still trying to fix Ski up with a man?
Kairn has to be good at something, you know. And no, some things never change. It's about another two years after this before Ski decides it's the last straw ans leaves so Mom will stop with the matchmaking.
I absolutely love these characters. It's pretty cool that Kairn is mostly in the periphery, but still the main subject, and I still get a good feel for the person he is. You write very well, and clearly!
I very much enjoyed all of Ski's little barbs in this...then again, I'd be sort of cranky too if my mother was trying to match me up with a dude named Percy, haha.

Sometimes I wonder how Lyssa wound up speaking so poorly with that as an example.
