Summary: Matti discovers a science project in Heather's lab and is less than impressed with what she learns about it. An utterly fanciful moment between the two friends.

Matti stepped into the lab where Heather was working. An array of petri dishes lined a ventilation hood on one wall and she walked over, drawn in by the variety of color that she saw there. Heather noticed and joined her.

"Oh that. It's just a project one of the undergraduates is doing for kicks. The boss doesn't know." The boss, of course being Heather's advisor. The man was a stickler for rules and for proper use of equipment. This project likely didn't fall into proper use.

"What is growing on them?"

"Well... you probably don't want to know."

Matti gave Heather a look and rolled her eyes. "Well, whatever it is, it stinks to high heaven."

"Yeah, that would be the E. coli."

Matti leaned in, getting as close to the glass of the hood as her nose would let her. "Like... people getting sick from spinach, don't eat the salad e coli?"

"The very same. Also, naturally occurring in your gut, e coli."

"That's gross."

"It's what makes shit smell like shit."

"I -really- didn't need to know this, Heather."

"Hey now, just trying to impart my knowledge to the unwashed masses."

"Why does that one look like pudding?" She pointed to one of the plates on which a pudding like substance had been streaked out on the agar and was now speckled with small, tan colonies of bacteria.

"Well... because it is chocolate pudding."

Matti paled. "From where?"

"The cafeteria."

"Gross."

"Yeah. I think letting the girl do this project just turned her off completely to science."

"Shame."

"Quite."
