Summary: After receiving the job offer, Saana Jeckleis goes off to find her former crewmates.
Jeckleis scurried through the center of town, one appendage keeping her cloak pulled tightly about her. She knew her old first mate was around here somewhere. The streets could barely be called that, just thick mud and waste from the myriad of species that were stuck on the planet. The focal point of the square was a mockery of city statues. In the pure black stone of the region, it stood twenty feet in the air, carved into the figure of what she knew as a human pirate. Or at least how they'd imagined them those thousands of years ago back on their planet Earth.
Jeckleis had never personally been to Earth. She'd been in orbit around the planet but she hadn't had the proper authorization. Still, it had allowed her to pick up on their broadcasts. They had an interesting view of pirates. She often wondered if she should pick up an eye patch. It really wouldn't inhibit her eyesight, compound eyes had that advantage.
The statue, however, was human, with a primitive plant based prosthetic for a leg and dressed oddly, at least for ship life. Though she supposed an ocean going ship was far different from a space ship. She was sure salt water would ruin her chitin though. Space was far better.
On the other side of the statue she found her former first mate. He was a reptilian alien and was sunning himself on the stone. She clicked her mandibles together and tapped the stone right by his head.
He opened one eye and it rotated around to get a better look at him. "Ah Captain. Surprised to see you."
Her mandibles fluttered as she signed. Got a job. Interested? The query was emphasized by a dip of her head.
He chuckled raspily, "Last I checked you had the chip, same as me. This job on planet?"
No. Secret offer, keep private. Interested? Again the query. She bobbed her head in anticipation. Despite the self control she'd schooled herself to, she unfurled her mouth then tucked it back up again.
He sighed, "I like you, Cap'n. If you can get me off this rock, I'll follow you anywhere. Just say when."
She nodded and left him on base of the statue and scuttled away. There were others to gather.
