Tara looked up from her place next to the box of decorations with eyes that her father often referred to as her “watching eyes”. She used them sometimes to watch the world in order to figure out what made everything work while she was so broken. Mostly she used them to watch her Papa, a man that confused and terrified her with his moods. Tara watched because she knew that even though the season had his mood elevated it was always possible he might want to deck the halls. And she didn’t mean the way that was in that song.
