A/N: Sorry for the long wait...writer's block is no joke. This is a story that just popped up today. I want to see where it goes. The character's name is pronounced "Nah-shay"

The brisk autumn air greeted the 26-year-old African-American as he stepped out from inside the library. Immediately sounds of conversation flowed into his mind harshly like a head on collision and for a moment Najée debated walking back into the calm quiet sanctuary filled with books. But the time was nearing for him to head home and he couldn't be late so after pulling up his collar over his silver chain necklace, Najée cleared his throat and closed his eyes...concentrating on just one thought: Getting home. Still they came...

"I can't believe this guy! Leaving me all alone last night! I swear..."

"He left me for another woman!"

"Wonder how quick she'd let me..."

As the voices in his head became silent, Najée opened his his soft gray eyes before heading down the stone steps and walking onto the sidewalk. Various sights and sounds greeted the man as he kept a brisk pace toward the parking garage where he left his car. The foul-smelling mist from a sewer vent made Naj wrinkle his nose as he continued only to stop slightly in front of a coffee shop. It wasn't his intention to stop for coffee but something told him to turn and open the doors.

The warmth greeted his face and body like a hug and after shaking out the cold from his light brown dreads, he looked around to see what this place had in store for him. It was alive with people laughing and conversing cheerfully and Najée gave a soft smile as he loved being in atmospheres like this. Manuvering his way through the shop, Najée made a note to look at every single person in the establishment. Immediately he knew their ages, their backgrounds, their dreams and even their fears. It was a talent he adored and used to a extent. As he turned to go forward, his path was blocked by a woman and before he knew it, they bumped into each other. Coffee splattered to the ground, covering Najée's black boots and people's eyes were on them.

"Oh, my goodness! I am so sorry, sir. I didn't mean to! I didn't even see you there."

Najée kneeled down beside the woman, who's dark brown hair and light brown eyes made him stare at her thoughtfully before saying "Nah, don't worry about it, sweetheart. It happens in a crowded place like this all the time I bet."

The woman giggled. "More often than not I hope." She said.

After helping her back up and getting the cup off of the ground, Naj took a moment to analyze this amazingly beautiful woman before the chance to do so left him. She was 23. The youngest daughter out of 4 children and a accountant trying to find her way in the world. She was admirable and Najée couldn't help but want to know her even better. "Say...I was wondering sweetie...if..."

The woman looked up at him in question.

"If..."

'Wow...there's no way a woman like that would want to be with a guy like me.'

This one statement crashed through Najée's thoughts like a wrecking ball and his eyes immediately scanned for whoever thought it. It was a 23 year old young man sitting at a laptop, his eyes staring straight at the same woman and Naj sighed as time began to slow

"It figures..." He mumbled out, looking down at his chain, the shell at the end of it resonating a light chime. It was slowing time to a complete stop and Naj closed his eyes once more. Reaching out, he grabbed the young lady's hand pulling her towards his body tightly. The woman gasped breathing out "What are you do..." But before she could finish, Najée looked down at her again revealing the now light pink color of his eyes and she was struck speechless; motionless and at his mercy.

There were no other sounds other than the breathing of Najée and the female in his arms. Shaking his head, he looked over at the man who had so abruptly taken what he wanted and in the next moment lowered his lips over the full soft lips of the woman. Her name was Lisa. From the first sweet taste of her lips he knew who she was completely and everything in his yearned to keep her in his arms but as the chime from the shell grew softer, he knew he had to hurry. Najée broke the kiss and then stared at Lisa once more before nodding. She just stared back transfixed and as time came back to it's normal fast pace full of laughter and chatter turned around and walked off without a second look back.

Watching with sullen eyes, Naj knew that the girl was heading to the young man to ask him if she could have a seat next to him. Sure enough she did and as the man helped her into the seat with a face full of amazement, he knew that this store had worn out it welcome for him. He headed back out into the cold and instead of walking, jogged to a nearby alley.

"This is bullshit..." He grumbled pulling off his coat and then removing his long sleeved olive green shirt from his well muscled body. Holding them in the crook of his arm, he began to concentrate, groaning a bit as the tip of a feather began to rise from his shoulder blade

This wasn't new to him but he didn't understand it either. He didn't know why he was here or where he even came from. He didn't know where he got his powers and why they came to him. All he knew was that he was to give people a emotion he couldn't have himself.

With that thought running through his mind, Najée pushed down on his feet and soared upward, leaving a trail of feathers falling from the sky.
