I strummed the strings slowly and let my voice do the talking, closing my eyes and letting Rebel take over on his bass guitar. The atmosphere was just cozy like this was home and it was. To us, playing like this was everything we wanted; needed even.
"Why must you carry on and on and on..." my voice sang out as my eyes opened again. They searched around the club and then outside the window of it. Despite me singing, it was like my brain was detached in two different places. Mulitasking was a plus right now.
Outside was the beautiful woman I saw earlier and now a guy stood in front of her surrounded by two other guys. My eyebrow raised as something didn't seem too right about this situation in front of my eyes. They seemed to be yelling at each other and in the next minute, my breath nearly caught in my throat as I watched the man grab the woman and begin shaking her. I didn't understand what was happening but I couldn't tear my eyes away.
"Graven..." I heard Monster say beside me cuing me to keep singing. I hadn't even realized I had stopped and I kept humming to keep the crowd satisfied. I nodded and then was throughly shocked when I saw the woman break away easily from his grip by hitting his arms with her elbows and just as soon as she did that, she reached up with her hand and slapped him hard in the face.
I winced. Ouch.
She tried to back away but it seemed as if her reflexes were sluggish and she barely missed his reaching for her. Now she was situated with her back to the window. I paused for a minute to strum a few more keys on my guitar then looked up again just in time to see the next part of the confrontation.
A few more yells and then it happened.
The man backhanded...no, more like punched the woman with so much force that she flew and her back bounced off the glass of the window; the crashing sound of the collide forcing people to look back at the two. Our music instantly stopped as we just all watched in shock at the rough handling of the woman who had slumped down to the ground.
"What the fuck?" Turbo growled behind me.
"That was not cool at all, man." Rebel said.
I on the other hand, dropped my guitar and ran outside the club quickly turning the corner and yelling, "Leave her alone!"
The big guy turned and met my gaze, before scoffing and saying "Who the hell do you think you are, buster...coming all up in here and trying to patrol shit?"
I stood my ground watching the two guys cracking their knuckles as if ready for a fight. My hand reached up behind my neck slowly. "I'm not patrolling you, asshole, but I'm going to ask you one more time to leave her alone." My words were growled out menacingly but the dumbasses didn't get the message. The leader sighed and began walking towards me; reeking of alcohol I cold smell way back here.
"I'm not going to tell you again to mind your damn business, boy."
I sighed and in a smooth gesture, pulled out my shotgun from the hole in my coat and aimed it straight at his chest. The man stopped and lifted up his hands; a coward just like I knew he would be. His lackeys did the same. I motioned to the side as the dusty wind blew my hair back gently.
"Back up."
He did, but back towards the woman.
"Away from me and away from her."
The man obeyed waiting for my next instructions as he was at my mercy. I shook my head saying "Men like you disgust me. Stay the fuck away from her and away from this part of the city or I will blow your brains out just for the fuck of it."
The three nodded and with a snap from the leader, they tucked tails and ran. I watched them for a little while before putting my gun back in my coat. My eyes found the knocked out woman and I couldn't help but wonder what the hell she did to deserve such a beating.
