Notes: Er, Mike as a kid. Don't know how much to say about this one.
He wrinkles his nose at the roast Ms. Zorns is setting on the table; it's sitting in a pool of what looks like blood, speckled white with gristle. It looks gross and dead, but not quite dead enough. His stomach lurches.
Hand on Mike's shoulder, she smiles across the table at his father.
"You boys could use a cook around here." Her fingernails are sharp through his t-shirt. "Someone to take care of you."
When she takes a knife to the roast, it sighs and leaks. Mike swallows back the bile in his throat and tries to be brave.
