So, do you know what I realized? The FELINE DISTEMPER shots had to be three weeks apart, yes, but that didn't mean Koda had to have all three before getting the rabies shot, now did it? So at our last appointment I asked as much and, yup, turns out that while the distemper shots need to be spaced out, any other shots only need to wait a week. *sigh* Wish I'd thought to ask that sooner.
So on Saturday, the car came and got us and Koda and I once again made the trip to the ICVS clinic. We got a different veterinarian this time around - a man - who was a lot more thorough. Koda's ears were dirty - again - so the vet sent the wax to the upstairs lab for testing, to make sure there were no mites, fungus, or infection. Came back negative - I just need to clean his ears every three days with a special cleaning solution. Should be fun; I'm sure Koda's gonna love that. His teeth were checked (his kibble makes his breath so stinky, FYI) and he's teething, yes, but it's all normal. His chip was scanned (so, yay, that works) and then he had his shot - apparently Chinese rabies shots are dark red in colour - and got to hang out in the exam room for twenty minutes. This vet actually let him roam around, but mostly he just did enough exploring to find a place under the exam table to hide. Brave little tiger, my Koda.
His next appointment will be in two weeks for his last distemper shot and then, depending on when it fits into the clinic's available appointments, he'll be neutered the next week (his shots need to be at least seven days old before they'll operate). Cat ownership. Fun times.
On the bright side, he and Bandit continue to get along and have taken to tag teaming for treats. Which just isn't fair; it's like cuteness overload!
