Day Eleven

Feb 13, 2004 02:18

I was wrong, today, Heroes! There is no Elemental that has attacked! This is a good thing, as it's given me more time to prepare myself....But after that, I wondered what I would do. Then I remmembered -- I still have to finish my WITs initiation! Yes, it was decided: Today I shall become a wizard. When I left the inn, Shameen informed me that the Poet will be here tonight again and wished to speak personally with me. Good to know. Oh, Elsa? I got your post card, thanks!

Anyway, I used my magic map to reach the location of the WITs, opened the door magicaly and entered. Nothing changed from my last visit. Again, the voices came up and informed Erasmus that 'his would-be apprentice' has returned. Following that, I redid that easy pretest in a matter of secondes(Detect magic, fetch, trigger! Wheeeee!) and went on ahead to the REAL test when I was asked. I was ready this time. I knew I was. The large doors opened up in a flash for me, leading to ...nothing as far I could see. I entered anyway...and found myself in a narrow pathway leading to the edge of infinity, as far I can describle. All I could hear were my footsteps, so I walked and walked.

Soon, a rectangle showed up and, a wizard in it, almost forming a door. Getting straight to the point, he told me: "Now you will face the wind." My first test! Finnaly!

I kept walking and I soon meet myself with a spinning staff, resembling a cross. ( http://www.rpgclassics.com/staff/lunaris/qfg2image30.gif ) I could not go past it, or float about it...or dispel it. In a burst of inspiration, I used Fetch on it to pull it troward me. It's turned around, slowly edging troward me. Hum! I quickly used Levitation, lifted above it and let it pass. That was easy enough! I continued walking the path, waiting for the next wizard.

He came, in the same way the other did, intoning to me: "You must now face raging earth and stone." Behind it a LARGE wall sprouted from the ground. Suspectious. I could have just climbed it, but I had to USE magic, right? I first used Detect magic to see if there was any enchantments on the wall. There was. I then used trigger...which caused the wall to turn into...well, THIS! ( http://www.rpgclassics.com/staff/lunaris/qfg2image31.gif ) Out of reflex, I threw a Flame Dart at it, but it's seemed to be ineffective. So did Force Bolt. Mmm...Maby calming it down would do the trick? I used the 'Calm' spell I learned in Erana's Peace, hidden under a rock. (Very powerfull, I rarely uses it normaly.) It did the work, the golem crumbled down, almost...sleeping. I walked foward and easily climbed over it, continuing my way. Unfortunatly, the spell wore off and in one LARGE punch, the whole pathway shaked! I used the spell again and, this time, the golem vanished in a yellow smoke. Whew!

The next wizard came along fast. "You must overcome the subtle strenghts of water and ice." he creepily saide to me. I entered the 'doorway' he left behind to found myself infront of a big iceberg! Immediatly, I used Flame Dart, which's heat was sufficient to make a small crack. Now, what to do to make that crack bigger? Open? Nope. It did not work. Maby a Force Bolt, if aimed correctly, might rebounce well enough, knocking powerfully on the two sides and, with hope, make them fall? I tried so! And it worked, look! ( http://www.rpgclassics.com/staff/lunaris/qfg2image32.gif ). It took me three whole Bolts to make the two parts fall off, but I managed to get past! One last trial left!

It came as fast than the other. Only one elemental left to conquer: Fire. "You must now wistand the fury of my flames." the wizard saide befor letting me pass. When I passed the door way, I soon found myself infront of...anoter doorway. I could hear the flames coming from behind it, but I had no idea what to do excatly. I used 'Open' on the door. Ooof! The heat was WAY too intense. Mabye 'Calmi'ng it down might work? As much a stupid idea it was, it worked! ( http://www.rpgclassics.com/staff/lunaris/qfg2image33.gif )Now, all I needed to do was closing the door(Done with a simple 'Fetch' spell) and knock the door over the hole the fire ate thru! (Force Bolt is a wonder in kinetics!) I defiantly walked over the improvised bridge, proud of myself. I done it! I was at WIT's end!

In a flash, I found myself in the WIT Halls once more, with the four wizards standing infront of me. They congratulated me and named me 'Wizard Initiate'. Then all went on that I was ready to drop that 'foolish Hero buisness' (WHAT?) and spend years and years to study the arts and transcend from the realms of lesser mortals to Wizards, leaving the world of thoses who 'needed me' and my skills were more important than them. I could not belive my ears-- did they asked me to just quit all thoses people in need, all my friends in dangers? I clearly and immediately told them my refusal when they asked me...Perhaps I was a little rude, but this made me somewhat angry there. They understood rather well, however and when they vanished, Erasmus said I did the right thing: What use is Knowledge when you can't use it? I felt a little better at that -- Erasmus is maby a goofy old man that tell horrible jokes, but he is a great, powerful wizard all the same. He also gave me a gift -- the Reversal Spell. I used it before in Videoland, but it was a much, much lesser version of it(I admit -- I used one-time use scrolls! Shame on me!), but not...I may cast it at will. I left with the old wizard's quitting words echoing in my mind: "Those who can, do." A saying worthy of Heroes! In a flash, I left this place, probably to never return.

The Teleporation left me in the same area the WIT door was. I was exhausted! This test took a lot out of me magically, and according to the sun, I was about to miss Omar's poetry! I hurried to the Katta Tail and I arrived just in time. The Poet gave me some Dinars, from the Sultan, in thanks of defeating the air elemental. Fifty dinars! That is...almost too much. I thanked him...but I refused it. I did that only to defend the people of Shapeir, not to get money out of it. He looked surprised, at first. He nodded, smiling and took the money back, taking out his book of poetry without adding a word. I went to my seat and watched -- here the poem, folks!

Came a Hero drawing near
to our land of fair Shapeir,
The Katta called and carried that one here.
I shall tell an allegory,
'bout a Quest for Love and Glory
Which I shall relate if you lend an ear.

The Hero first faced Fire
which was making matters dire,
For the flames he fought were fitting even higher.
With water he fought it.
and into a lamp he caught it
'Ere our city of Shapeir became our pyre.

The next he faced was Air
which I'm sure that you're aware,
Was blustering and blowing here and there.
Before the Winds became our bane,
as a fearsome hurricane,
With a bellows then he caught it fair and square.

So let us raise a cheer for the Hero of Shapeir,
And remmember that our praise is quite sincere,
For in the Quest for Glory as related by this story,
Is a Hero who as saved us from fear,
Is a Hero who's a Hero without peer!

Once the poetry was done, I stood up and went ahead to talk with the two of them. What they wanted to talk about was all in the poem -- uh, oh well. Me who was waiting for a clue for the next elementals or something. I almost forgotten, but I returned the lost purse the Poet. He took it and nodded at me in gratitude. I left, soon afterward, to sleep -- or rather, in bed writing this. Good night, everyone!
