HAPPY NEW YEAR!

So I just realized that I've been taking photos for just about all of the last decade. I got my first camera sometime in 2000.

These dates are all accurate to the best of my knowledge... though I feel like some of them are wrong.

Me - sometime in 2000. Note my lame U2 Best of 1980-1990 promo dogtags. I was a crazy fan.

The dump of a living room that my roommates kept. I refused to clean up after them.

My desk, junior year at Penn. You can see an IRC window open on my screen. I am most likely talking to xsarahsaturdayx, my oldest online friend. We still have not met. This must change.

A composite (before I knew how to do composites) of my room with the desk moved. I had the greatest view ever. I could just about see my house in South Philly from that window.

One of the first photos I have of Sarah... our U2 Philly group got together to watch the Grammy Awards show on 21 Feb 2001.

Me and Rose in line for a show

In a way, this was the photo that started it all, for me. It's not a very good photo, but it inspired me to learn more and get better.

In a more accurate way, THIS was the photo that started it all. The internet was a different place in 2001, but when I was contacted by someone in Brazil about using my photo (for a petition to get U2 to play there), it really made me feel like maybe I had something. This was before Flickr ever existed; these were photos on my old website at Penn.

In yet another way, this was the photo that started it all: it was the first of my photos that was ever published in print. Taken in 2001, published in 2003 in U2 Live: A Concert Documentary. I should try to find the post where I describe my reaction to seeing it in the book for the first time (I didn't even know I had a photo in the book until I saw it for myself).

September 5, 2001... 6 days before the world changed for the worse, and 11 days before my world changed for the better.

At some point in 2001 I started a project to take a picture for every U2 song. Some were literal, some were figurative... it never really got off the ground.

Feb 2002, Cleveland. At least that's what the EXIF data says. ;)

March 2002 - I took Sarah up to the Poconos for her 18th birthday. Fun times.

2002, December, Kelly drive in Philadelphia.

January 2003 - taken on one of the many walks through Philadelphia that dynamicsymmetry and I took early in our relationship.

June, 2003, I think. Cleveland. I believe that's ruidoso lurking in the background.

January 2004 - celebrating the Eagles winning the NFC Championship down on Broad Street in the middle of a snowstorm with Sarah and my family. They didn't win the Super Bowl. Oh well.

Ordinarily I'd pretend that this photo set doesn't even exist, but I just found it after having lost it for a while... it's from the first night I saw the Frames at the North Star Bar in Philly in 2005. I think this is one of the last times I used my first camera (A Fuji Finepix 2400, for the record). I lost it in the back seat of a taxi - it went to camera heaven, I hope.

My first concert with my (then) new camera. Not my best work, but I knew at this point that I had a significant upgrade.

June 2005 - a view from the seats where we saw the Phantoms win the Calder Cup... I have no idea why I don't have photos from most of the game, including the trophy presentation. All I can figure is that I forgot to charge my battery before the game. Damn. At least I got to see it with dynamicsymmetry and indierockbird.

July 2005 sunset looking out the front door of where I was born and raised in South Philly.

Sarah's place at 35th and Spring Garden. It was small, so it was a bit, uh, busier than we would have liked!

What can I say? Taken at the Penn Ice Rink, where I spent a ton of time between 1996 and 2005.

It was a good photo at the time (October 2005)... it holds much more meaning since the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino bought a print of it from me (September 2009)!

Not my favorite photo from the greatest U2 show I ever saw, but this one was published in U2: A Diary in 2008.

February 2006, looking out of Sarah's window in South Philly.

April 2006 - one of my best photos of Sarah (according to her, anyway!)

April 2006. My photos from this show are still featured on Josh Ritter's website!

July 2006 - when Sadie first came into our lives. She was so small!

July 2006 - Sarah cut off all her hair.

July, 2006, while staying with rhythmsextion and frog4. It actually looks like I knew what I was doing! :)

BT, co-headlining with Thomas Dolby in December of 2006. My work used to be featured on his official website (www.btmusic.com), but it has since been re-designed. BT - one of my top 5 favorite musicians of all time, and this was one of the best concerts I've ever seen.

August, 2007. Sarah's uncle, waterskiing on the lake down in Texas.

Valley Green Inn, seen here in May 2008. We'll be back here in June for a fairly important event... :)

My favorite photo from my favorite photoshoot ever, September 2008.

September, 2008. It's not how I would have planned it -- that my best photo of Tim Booth wasn't in a concert setting, I mean -- but the fact that I was able to see him (and James) at all ranks up there in the top 10 best things about the past 10 years.

October 11, 2008 - during the campaign. Between seeing James in concert, the Phillies winning the World Series, and the election, it was a good few months, for sure.

Speaking of the Phillies... the championship parade on October 31, 2008.

July 2009. Phillies winning the World Series in 2008 - probably one of the three best things to happen to me in the last 10 years. Losing Harry Kalas as the voice of the Phillies in 2009... yeah, that's near the bottom.

Moving to Maryland was one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do... but at least I very much enjoy living where we do!

Let me in the sound, let me in the sound... September 2009
