so this is my prom post about how awesome it was and basically how this
weekend in general was almost entirely completely amazing,
unfortunately there are no pictures so i guess i don't ACTUALLY have
any proof that any of this happened...
well this weekend was prom, adn by weekend, i mean weekend. the
dance may have only been saturday night, but i swear teh entire 3 day
(only 3 days for me because i had the joy of school on senior skip day)
was taken up by promming or at least prom people. but even still,
i'd have to say that the weekend started with third period and the
beach. i decided that it was clearly essential to spend imprints
at the beach adn mark was nice enough to accompany me. beach was
pretty and the sun was hot and i discovered yet again that sunscreen is
probably something i REALLY need to be wearing and my entire left leg
became extremely sunburned. after lunch i blasted back to school,
got laughed at by calc teacher adn was sent home for a nap. then
it was track meet time. i think that was definitely teh low point
of my weekend, i thought i'd been scratched from the mile so that i
could just concentrate on teh 800. unfortunately that wasn't the
case. after brainstorming all sorts of ways to not run it (false
start twice, show up at the starting line with "fuck you snohomish"
written on my arm, etc) it was clear that basically i had to run the
thing. i struck a happy median between runnning the thing and not
by running a nice 5:53 (only 30 seconds off the PR...). but
mainly thank goodness brenna showed up when she did because i was an
absolute mess and just sooo upset and not at all calm, but she came,
calmed me down adn i was able to "run" a nice mile. then, 40
minutes later, it was 800 time. my feet were hurting and i was
still upset about the whole mile fiasco but there were lots of friends
there adn i just went out there and decided to have fun becuase i knew
it was my last ever high school race. i ended up running a 2:24,
not a PR, but not too bad, and i beat stacey, which was a nice way to
finish off my high school season. and thanks to all who came and
watched, it was awesome to have people cheering. after that was a
failed attempt at gasworks park, but a successful trip to michael
erickson's yard. i ended up getting not as much sleep friday
night as i probably should have as i'm STILL exhausted from prom, but
eh, thats how it goes some times and it was all so fun that i'm not
going to complain.
so saturday i woke up around 8 (after getting to sleep after 1) and i
had a leisurely morning packing my bag and getting stuff ready for the
cabin. i went and got my nails done adn saw drew's mother there
and then i headed over to brittney's. we immediately left for
central market to pick up some boutineres, but were blocked by a mini
street fair that was just on a mission to stop us. luckily we
were able to park in china, but we made up time by sprinting into
central. then it was back to brittney's house adn then off to
edmonds beach to pick up her mom. then the hair process began for
me, and wow, so fun. by the end, my hair was CEMENTED, later that
evening it withstood the wind on the front of the ferry. i was
being knocked over and barely able to walk, but my hair was dead
still. hannah arrived shortly after and she was dressed adn
haired alsothen it was time for the boys, and wow can i mention that
i'm just a major fan of boys in tuxes??? sooo fun. so our
parents took over 250 pictures of us in the small space of time that we
allowed them too, we did the flower thing secretly in teh house to
avoid additional pictures and then it was off to... more
pictures... mark and i were in paden and brittney's car
(something that was not allowed to be referred to as the
"cousinmobile"...) and wow, it was completely secret service james
bond. the boys were in tuxes, wearing sun glasses, we had walkie
talkies between teh cars, and paden had a radar detector (X BAND, just
so that we could spot those stealthy grocery stores) and of course the
temperature monitor. basically it was pretty awesome. we
arrived safely at inglewood adn had more pictures taken (just for
complete documentation that we did in fact go to prom, i mean you have
to have primary sources) and then it was off to dinner.a brief drive
thru and park at dick's (thanks guys...) and then we were off to our
real restaurant, Anthony's on pier 66. we ate outside, perfect
for viewing the orcas, as well as the highly intelligent white tux
prommers nearby. i was able to work on my sunburn by sitting
under the heat lamp. mark and i proved that we really were the xc
runners in teh group by finishing our dinners (fish btw, because really
thats the proper thing to order at a seafood restaurant...) adn then it
was off to the dancewe were there for almost 45 minutes and although we
did make it to the ferry line with 1 minute to spare, i think its
probably a good thing that we didn't spend that extra minute at teh
dance. really the only unfortunate thing was that i didn't get to
see a lot of the people that i was looking forward to seeing, but
luckily it seems that every other group also had adequete amounts of
photos providing proof of their own prom experiences. as we left
the dance we had about half an hour to make it back to shoreline, drop
off matt, pick up jordan and make it to the ferry. with some
extreme driving, some VERY yellow lights and some tripling of the speed
limit we were able to make our ferry. on the ferry, while the
other girls stayed inside adn were warm, mark adn i went exploring and
discovered that it was quite windy out. we eventually arrived
("kingston...") and had a quick trip back to the cabin where there was
hot chocolate waiting for us. we had a demonic looking fire adn
burned a flower box. after the fire most of us went back up to
the cabin... although one couple had some extended fire
time..........by then i was pretty much exhausted and passing out, but
kelsey adn jordan decided that it was CLEARLY necessary to make
macaroni and cheese, as it turns out it wasn't the tastiest so i'm glad
i fell asleep before getting to try it.
the next morning we woke up bright and early so that hannah could leave
to water polo and brittney adn jordan could take off too. while
mike drove them to the ferry, kelsey, paden, mark and i wandered down
to the beach for awhile. mike came back and we ziplined, BUILT A
CUT THROUGH, and explored some of the abandoned shacks on the
property. i was able to prove my strength with a rock by opening
the door to teh bomb shelter, where we discovered a REALLY big
saw. but i suppose the hilight of sunday was the experience i had
with the tire swing. just for reference, attempting to catch a
swinging tire, doesn't work so well. mike lifted the tire above
his head adn let it swing out towards me, i decided to attempt to play
catch with it, so i put my hands in front of my face, ready to catch
the tire adn push it back. as it turns out... tires have quite a
bit of momentum adn it went through my hands, slammed into my face and
knocked me flying back through the air adn flat onto my back... my only
regret is that i wasn't able to see it happen, but i've heard it was
pretty hilarious to watch. then it was time for lunch and then
heading home where i rode int eh back of the mustang (REALLY need to
work on my shot gunning skills...)i went home, showered out the
crunchiness of my hair and then headed over to marks for some dodgeball
adn frozen pizza (it was a bold strategy that definitely paid
off).
monday morning my parents woke me up early to work on some college
stuff and then it was off to folklife for a bit where i saw many people
adn ate a gyro. also, by this time i was just completely totally
exhausted adn i really think that i probably should have just stayed
home and slept, but it was fun still. i also was unable to get a
haircut becuse it was memorial day and the place was closed :(
and swim team wasn't happening because it was memorial day and today i
can't go because of tutoring :( i'm just not getting my
endorphins from working out adn its definitely making me sad :(
and yet i'm still giddy and excited from prom so i guess mostly i'm
just tired
anyways, this was really long and there is defintiely a reason its
taken me this long to post my prom excitedness, but it was an amazing
weekend and i'm so glad that i went in the group i did with the date
that i did. thanks to all of you for making it awesome!
