I think I am going to like it, once it is cleaned up a bit and not so crowded. The house is still kind of gross, but we will do something about that hopefully. So next weekend I think ( Read more... )

there's nothing wrong with PSU. At least its not like Clown College or something.

I think maybe if you're interested in publishing, maybe you could try looking for a job in that field. Even if its just an admin job, at least you would be working in an industry that appeals to you. That way you will be exposed to an area that interests you and you can see if moving away and pursuing a publishing certificate will be something worthwhile.

oh i know there's nothing wrong with psu, that's why i was considering applying there! i just didnt think they were particularily known for their business school (or that they had one), but apparently it is actually quite good according to Princetown Review, so it probably diminishes my chances of going there either way ( ... )

The PSU business school is nationally renowned I believe. I don't know I wasn't in that program. I did take classes in the bizarre business building though.

If you go to PSU, you may want to look into their writing program. If you're interested in working for a newspaper, you can take their news writing courses . I even have a copy of the Associated Press Style Guide that you could borrow!

I know that Portland isn't the mecca of publishing, but maybe you could look into newspaper offices, television studios (someone has to edit the copy that the anchors read!), and I'm sure there are some independent publishers here. I believe that Portland also has magazines as well. Maybe you could try freelancing for a small independent newspaper. I dunno.

yar the PUS b-school is good, so i would kind of like to go there, if i decide trying for and going for an MBA would be worthwhile/something i want. but you need 2 years work experience first, so i would waaait. also my boss has said before he would pay for me to take business/accounting/whatever classes so i could probably do that to prep. but i still dont know! Unfortunetly portland ISNT really the publishing mecca, but nowhere really is other than new york. the west coast is just different types of industries. and that is ok, because it is really hard to find a job here! especially what i know i want to do, acquisitions editing or the like, i am going to need more education and schooling for i think. which is fine, because i really WANT to move to new york! and hardly any schools offer any editing/publishing business type classes, so i was lucky to have that one seminar at uo. arg i'm still confused though. mostly i just am anxious to be doing something productive career-wise, which my job is NOT. but it is still a good job so i ( ... )

PSU is pretty unique in its student press. granted it publishes mostly poems about fir trees for old people, but still.

i'm in the same position as you. i'm also considering going here, and do you know what's up with this?

AAAAND i think i met you once. your housemate is my friend's friend? something like that? i was at the housewarming party for 15 seconds. i ate your dip.
