My mom had a cancerous tumor in her leg. It was pretty random, and they had to take out the major muscle in her leg in order to get it all. It has been over eight years since she had cancer, and she was able to run a year after surgery.

I found the best thing I could do was to be positive and be prepared for some strange situations. The doctors once put my mother on a medication (I think it was Haldol) that made my mother sit in a chair for 13 hours and not leave and not even pee. Insane.

Be good to your mom. Don't dismiss her fears. Make her a funny hat to cover her head. If she's really feisty, get her a head tattoo. And remember that ultimately everything will be fine. :)

We're all here for you. Tasha has some pretty excellent advice. If your mom's a Sox fan, I can think of some pretty bitching distractions coming up.

My brother did cemo when I was 11-12 and he was 13-14 (just finishing 8th grade). He had leukemia, which involved a ton of physical pain, but a lot less breast removal ( ... )
