Urchin News

So I know I haven't posted in a long while, but this is so worthy of a long post. Urchin was recommended to the National Youth Leadership Forum in Medicine by his high school teacher. The program is a 10-day pre-med boot camp that exposes kids to the ins and outs of medicine in major hospitals and urban clinics. The kids do volunteer work, learn about all sorts of medical careers and read and write policy papers on health related issues. The work is intense and competitive.

Urchin goes to a rural high school. So we talked about it and decided to postpone enrollment into the program until next year. During this year, he will do some research on his own on into policy papers and the sort of research they will work on in the program. He is also planning to volunteer at his local hospital as part of a teen volunteer program. After all the time we have struggled with him about his school work, I am SO proud that he has found a goal he is passionate about and can focus on.

That's my boy!
