There are no words

I really need to rant about this before I lose my mind!

There are moments when I am reminded WHY I divorced my ex. Really, today is one of those days.

So urchin had a bit of a snafu with his computer. He was thinking it was something he had done. Lucky for us, machine is under warranty. Snafu happened in January. I tell him "call Dell, it is under warranty, go through tech support and see if you can find out what's wrong. Have Dad help you."

Weeks go by and he does nothing about it, but he does pack it up to send it back to Dell for repair. The machine never gets sent back. Finally, last weekend, he tells me he packed up the computer and Dad will be mailing it back. When I check in on it during the week, he says forgot it.

Now we are about 2 months after the initial incident! I see the Urchin and Dad today at Urchin's jazz concert (more on that and the Evil Twin later). I ask Dad about it and he hands me the boxed up machine! Says he forgot it last week and could I handle it?

*Dies*

I tell him "Fine, give it here, I will take care of it."

I drive home, aggravated that he couldn't just ask me to take care of it when it first happened. I am aggravated at my son for procrastinating on this as well.

So I get home and call tech support. My initial question was going to be whether I could take said machine to MicroCenter to get it fixed since we do carry Dell products. After doing the walk-through with the very nice woman named Mary who was on the other end of the phone (probably in New Dehli), I get an answer.

Yes, the hard drive is toast. Yes it is covered under warranty. I will be receiving a new hard drive in the mail on Monday. The hard drive will be preloaded with the operating system and all drivers. Also included will be a postage-paid envelope so I can return the defective drive. Have a nice day!

All of this took one hour, a prduct code and the express service number.

Had my son and my ex done what I told them to do a MONTH and a HALF ago, Urchin would have had a functioning machine.

I called Urchin after I got the info and told him the good news. I also asked him what he learned from all this. He has learned the following:
1) Be extra careful with computers
2) Call Mom when something serious happens
3) Do what Mom tells me to do immediately.

Now, I am going to have some tea and unwind a bit. I will update about the jazz performance in a bit...

family, urchin
