October Rising

My October.
It's been so long dear friend and after too many years missing.
You showed up with the first few sprinkles of autumn rain.
Reminding me of what joy feels and smells like: It's the brisk air that cuts through the last triumph of the sun's rays before winter. The oddly delicious smell of concrete as the first rain hits it. Autumn. Pure and simple.
You promised warm days filled with the smell of leaves falling, of the shortening days and kindly gave all of those things.
You are back. Holding my heart, my soul, my happiness, my life. me. All of the things I thought that I had forgotten. lost. all of the things i let be destroyed and disfigured beyond recognition. you gave them back to me this year.
thank you.
