Yesterday I went and got my biology books, my parking pass and turned in my financial paperwork (the paper that says I get a discount rate for being a dependent of a faculty member). I can't believe I start school on Tuesday!!
I'm still skittish about academics and this is a pretty intense schedule for a single class (Monday through Thursday 7:30 - 10 a.m. and Lab on Monday through Wednesday from 12:30 - 2:30), but I'm excited about it. And really...it's just bio 101.
My leg is better. Strangely I developed this giant purple and yellow bruise yesterday along my calf muscle. I think it's just the blood from the damage I did making its way to the surface since there is no pain associated with the discoloration, but it sure is hideous to look at. I can almost walk normally but I can't confidently take a full stride. I'm apparently a very fast healer. The orthopedist also suggested that the problem I occasionally have with my hip is bursitis, and when I looked it up sure enough those were the exact symptoms. So I'm normal, I'm just getting old.
Also: I am glad I hurt my leg doing something cool (Ultimate Frisbee) and not something like "I got out of bed and I stepped the wrong way". The orthopedist smiled and said "right on!".
Today I washed all of the bedclothes, mattress cover and comforter/duvet included. I love having everything fresh and clean and I am not ashamed to say that I am looking forward to getting in bed tonight.
I have found myself on the committee (pending board approval) for the Habitat for Humanity benefit in August. They want to do a kind of wine and food thing for the muckety mucks who are the big donors and they are floundering a little bit. My friend who is on the board had contacted me about the restaurant participating, but he obviously didn't know I was no longer with the restaurant. At the very least I would like to have a table and use it as kind of a re-launch for the catering. New business cards, printed menus, website, etc. It's the exact people I want to target, so this could work out well for everyone.
Grilling up some boudin tonight. I bought it at WalMart, believe it or not.
