The sun was slowly setting down beyond Domino City's rooftops, still illuminating the sky but casting shadows over much of the city.
Jack Atlus, the former King of Neo Domino, a city that wouldn't exist for years, if it ever did, sat alone at an empty cafe, nursing a cup of coffee as the staff prepared for closing around him. As he sipped at the bitter drink, he gazed at his dismantled deck and let his mind wander. It ended up on the same thing it usually did these days; his best friend (though he'd likely never admit that) bouncing off the pavement, utterly defeated by a monster that declared war on Synchro monsters. He shut his eyes and pictured himself slamming into the black top, the memories of similar events happening to him making it easy to picture.
The golden haired King set his cup down onto the saucer and grimaced. Yuusei had dueled it twice, and failed to win either time, and although he'd likely never admit this either, Jack was certain he'd have done much more poorly on both the first and second attempts. 'Red Daemon's is all I have..' he grimly thought, before correcting himself. It wasn't all he had, it never had been. It was always just a useful tool, but not an absolutely necessary one. His mind skipped further back. Countless challengers he had crushed flashed before his eyes. They all had different reasons for challenging him, but they had always had one, uniform claim: "I will crush the King and his Red Daemon's!". And yet now, an enemy had appeared entirely capable of that feat so many had claimed they would do and failed at. An enemy that required a new method of battle to fight against.
His mind continued to drift as he thought about it. Yuusei had found, even if only temporarily, a method to fight against it. And not just once, but twice. 'Izayoi could also likely fight against them without synchros... I'm the only one without a way to fight them.' he thought, clutching his hands together under his nose and staring into the sunset, as if looking for an answer that wasn't there.
He remembered further back, to something Godwin had told them in response to those challengers who sought to bring down the symbol of the King's power, Red Daemon's Dragon. "The King's power must be absolute!" He was told. "The King doesn't have the luxury to dodge a single blow from the challenger. He must face them head on and destroy them with overwhelming power!". Even after he had arrived in the past and sworn to become a true King, he kept those words in mind. 'But now Red Daemon's is only a disadvantage...' he thought. 'I need a new way to fight... but I can't throw away my pride either.' A new way to fight, but also the same way. A paradox, Jack thought with bitter amusement. Or maybe not, he mused to himself. There's always a different road to a destination. Overwhelming power revolving around Red Daemon's Dragon. There's many different strategies that could be called that as he thought of them. Using it to power something else..some way to make it count as something other than a synchro.. burn....burn. He smirked to himself slightly. He had always liked burn, though it fell to the wayside in recent revisions of his deck.
"A new way to use Red Daemon's." he pondered to himself, swallowing the last of his coffee. He stared out into the sunset again, more peacefully this time. It was only an idea, and idea that was certainly a long way from being usable. But it was at least an starting point. Thinking of all the possibilities, he dropped several yen notes onto his table with his empty coffee cup and mounted the Wheel of Fortune, riding off into the evening.
